Question about Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX Personal Web Camera

QuickCam Communicate STX

I cannot use the above cam in conjuntion with Skype
When I do it sounds as if a record is running at very slow speed
Run cam and Skype separately and all is O>K>

Normal 0 Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/ ) set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
  4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger (http://www.soft32.com/download_30.html ) set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

C. Windows Live Messenger:

  1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
  2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
  3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
  4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.
NOTE: You audio and video should work. Enjoy.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.

Verify the QuickCam Communicate STX is functional:
  1. Launch QuickCam software (Start > Programs > Logitech > Logitech QuickCam)
  2. Verify that you can see yourself in the QuickCam window as shown below:

Verify that the QuickCam Communicate STX is selected in the Skype Settings:

Slow slow slows down my computer!!


Normal 0 There are a number of things that can cause the computer or the camera to freeze up or slow down.
First I’d check to see how much memory is installed in the computer. It takes additional memory to operate the camera.

Logitech quick cam communicate stx on Vista - microphone not working


Why isn't the microphone on my camera working?
trnsp.gif Answer The microphone may not work because of a hardware or configuration problem. To determine if it's a hardware problem, test the microphone in Sound Recorder.

  1. Click "Start," > "Programs" ("All Programs" for Windows XP) > "Accessories" > "Entertainment" > "Sound Recorder."
  2. Click the Record button and speak into the microphone of the camera. You should see the green line move, indicating the application is picking up sound.
  3. Click the Stop button.
  4. Click the Play button. If there is no sound at playback, check to make sure the correct device is selected.
    1. Click "Edit," then "Audio Properties."
    2. Make sure Logitech is listed as the Preferred device for "Sound recording."
The microphone may also be defective. To test this, try the camera on another USB enabled system.
If you can record sound in Sound Recorder, but not in the QuickCam application, try setting the Logitech Microphone as the Preferred device in Audio Properties.

To set up Skype for video please be sure that your Logitech webcam is connected and working. This can be verifed by launching your QuickCam software and checking for a video stream withinin the QuickCapture video window. Once the webcam functionality is verified, please close the QuickCam application and follow the steps below.
  1. Launch Skype™ and click on "Tools" as shown in the figure below

Intermittent sound


I have notice that on some connections the speed is not fast enough to handle cam and voice at same time, If its not connections speed. He can go into control panel and run sound check for mic. It may help solve any problem if it's in the Audio drivers, And if that still does not help try a different mic. and see if that works. Hope that helps you out some what. Thanks

there should be a full manual on the CD in pdf format which accompanied the Webcam.. the 4 page guide was most likely the Quick start guide

Sound delay!


It's more than likely a slow connection dependant on each persons speed, and the more people on line the more bandwidth gets taken up, it's like at peak times trying to stuff a sausage down a straw so to speak. Also make sure that there are no other programmes running in the background taking up processor and memory usage, this also slows the connection.
