My Sony GV-D1000, which has worked just fine for years, now exhibits this behavior: Whenever I try to rewind more than a few minutes on the tape, it stops, displays the message "For InfoLithium Battery Only" and then shuts itself off. NOTE: I have never used a battery with this deck, I power it only with the supplied power adapter. It is my editing deck.

there is screws on the unit when the unit goes into rewind mode disconnect from mains and unscrew unit first check to see if the screws are scurity type haveng a hex or star shape on them if either then take to video and tv repair shop and explain that you need to remove a tape from unit you may have to pay for a small fee for it to be removed this part is all i can give but if you can remove screws yourself then locate the motor for tape ejet and load and manualy wind till tape is removed good luck

SOURCE: DSR 11 playback problem
Pete, we are having the same problem with 2 dsr-11s.
The fix for us was the "auto repeat" switch on the back of the unit. It was "on" please turn it off.
The other idea was that the tape tension is very sensitive in the units, try exercising the tape (though exorcise might be good too) by fast-forwarding then rewind the tape start to finish. Tape that were tightly wound at the factory can cause this proble as well. Good Luck. Greg VA

SOURCE: Sony GV-D1000 Powers on, will play memory stik, but not tape
C:31:23 error code means problem is in Supply Reel section.
If you are tech person you might got the point.
Unit has mechanical problem in supply reel area and reel pulse is not being generated as supply reel table may be stuck due to back tension.
Let me know if you need further help.

SOURCE: For Info Lithium Battery only
I was having the same problem with a sony GV-D1000 which I don't even use a battery with. I use an AC adapter. Someone suggested that the contacts might be dirty, so I unplugged the small connector that plugs into the back of the deck and wiped it hard with my t-shirt. It seems to work fine now. SO try cleaning the contacts (wherever your adapter or battery connects with the deck or camera.)

Sounds like an exit guide mis-alignment or a worn pinch roller.
