They have opening clips on the top side all around the cover, you can reach it with your fingers and try opening them all, the cover will come off easily, once done you can unscrew the light bulb and install a new one.
I had this same problem last month. There's no magic trick to it - I finally got it out when I pulled HARD. But it turned out that the bulb had rusted into the frame so badly that even after I got the bulb out, cleaned out the frame and inserted a new bulb, it still only worked sporidically (the rust or whatever it was, was why it was so hard to get the bulb out in the first place). I finally went to the chevy dealer yesterday and shelled out seven bucks for a new frame - and now it works perfectly.
If you need to replace your tail light bulb, first remove the cover(its round) from the inside of your trunk, there will be a black knob that needs to be unscrewewed totally to release the back light casing. Next, along the rear fenders where the lights are, there are two gaps. The insde gap( nearest hatch back door) is a release tab/clip on the light inside between the gaps. Insert a butter knife or something slim and pull out casing(don't be afraid, and it takes a little force to pull out). After you pull out casing, you'll find to light swithces(one is for the turn signals and other is your break lights). Turn the light switch counter clockwise(assuming it's hanging upside down)and remove. Switch out light bulb with new one(autozone has them for about $4.00 - package of 2)replace every thing back as you uninstalled it. Its recommended to replace all bulbs, that way it you don't have to do it again later when they go out. It'll save you lots of time and money. Hope this will help anyone so print and save in your manual for later use.
Do you know if the brake light bulbs are working? (are the bulbs good?). (the bulbs have two parts, one for brake lights the other for running lights) If the third brake light bulb is working the brake lights should be with good light bulbs.
u need to to make sure if it is a roung plug bulb (which requires about 1/5 th of a counter clockwise turn) or a straight insert bulb. the bulb should not break nor should the socket
You need the suction bulb that came with the unit. In case you do not have it, it is part #62408 and is about $2.00. I am trying to figure out for myself how to get the lens cover off in order to access the bulb, and how to replace it when the new bulb is put in.
the light bulb is screw type so turn only. with heat, bulb can jammmed over time so you may have to break it and get a pair of plyers on the cap. turn off power to do this
