Fridge making a noise

Hello - our GE side by side fridge just started making a steady noise from the back like a clock ticking loudly & slowly. When I opened the door the digital setting was not lit and it appears the fridge will not turn on. The water & ice dispeser doesn't work and all the lights, inside & out flicker as the steady noise is made.

The solution given was correct. As I had already made an appointment for the GE tech to come out the next day I let him come. He immediately replaced my motherboard and charged me nothing for the part or service. I wonder if the problem is so widespread there should be a recall & they are trying to avoid it.

my ge gsl22jfrebs makes a clicking sound like a clock its only a year old is there a factory warranty. what could be the problem

  • Anonymous Jan 06, 2008

My refigerator is also clicking. On another website I found a letter from the repair supervisor alerting all GE service personel not to charge for this repair when the motherboard dies as it is clearly a pervase reliability problem.

On my street, 2 friges have already stopped working - we all got them free from the builder. I will call and get a service person out before the frige actually stops working.

i had the same clicking problem. just like NeedHelpinLV said, GE came and replaced motherboard for free, no repair cost.

The relay clicks like crazy if you try to dispense anything. Condenser fans tries to start on each click but can't. If I give it a litte help by turning fan it keeps runnig. Ony problem is when temp is satisfied it will not restart. MB is $138 so I will call GE and see if it is free. Less than two year old fridge.

my frig just started making noise today and has never done it before, it sounds like something is 'flapping' against something else from the back, I imagine it is the motor, but what could be causing it to be making the flapping noise? I got the frig used about 2 yrs ago from a friend and have never had any problems until this morning, I got up to check my emails and the frig is behind me and it just started in on making the noise as I sat here. again it has never done this before and is not very loud, maybe as loud at someone shuffling a deck of cards.

Yes, I do have the same problem. I bought the GE Refrigerator in Dec 2005. I did not buy the extended warranty, now it sucks. keeps hearing the constant clock ticking noise.

    My model reference is GSH25KFRFF

You have a bad relay on the mother board. It is behind a panel on the back of the fridge. You can view a diagram at http://www3.sears.com/imaging/ImagePageJava.shtml?productTypeID=0165000&brandID=0432&modelDesc=REFRIGERATOR%20R%20SERIES&modelNumber=GSH25KGREWW&documentID=G0502132&documentTypeID=PLDM&documentClassCode=PV&titleType=SEALED%20SYSTEM%20%26%20MOTHER%20BOARD&titleID=00008& It is # 801. The part # is WR55X10552 and cost is $124.69 @ http://www3.sears.com/. I replace this board all the time. Make sure to unplug the fridge first!

I have a GSL22JFREBS with precisely this same problem. GE is on the phone now and told me they have a program for replacing the motherboards! So, it will be fixed and apparently no charge!

thank you all for posting.

GE profile fridge making loud humming noise

The door being open so long caused warm moist air to collect and freeze inside the unit.

Take everything out, unplug it and let it thaw out for an entire day. All the frost will thaw, and probably run water all over the place so put towels down.

When you plug it back it, it should work fine.

A side by side GE refrigerator with a loud hum

Hello Kchoffman73,

It sems we developed the same problem.
The hum seems to be coming from the bottom rear of the
fridge.

we have a GE side-by-side model TFX25JR.
The fridge is about 12 years old.

Whats the status of your fridge ? Did it ever stop
humming ? Did you replace or repair it ?
Does it still work ?

Thanks

We have a 4 year old GE fridge that is ticking like a clock but louder. the model number is GBS20HBSBWW

If the inside fan does not come one, suggestions are "bad mother board", possibly a free replacement from GE, that otherwise is $300+.

Loud humming noise as fridge is running

Sounds like the freezer fan is rubbing some wires or possible some foam insulation around the fan. I would look into the freezer compartment fan and go from there. The fan Will Shut off when you open the doors. Let me know how you make out and if you need anymore help.

Thanks,
Bill
