Turn the camera on. Then on the circle around the ok button there is a picture on the left hand side of a flash. Press that til the same picture shows up on the display. It will stay on til you change it again.

Well all the moving parts of the lent are plastic and most likely the reason Y you hear that sound it's because one of the hummmm the tiny wheels , that are connected to the mechanism of the focus on the lent is busted..... so replace that.
(some times if you take the camera to the beach the sand get to the mechanism ans stock the wells. In that case cleaning of the lent will suffice)
Now parts are not that easy to find some times companys only sale the complete lent and it will cost you, in that case you will need to decide if "REPAIR" or "BUY NEW" camera will be better
One of my friends has the same problem with her camera, but we can't even get old pictures to come up on the screeen. When you turn it on it says access for about 15 seconds, then tells you to tell the camera off and then back on.
