SOURCE: RCA DCM425 modem ethernet connection won't work

In short, you have to either

  1. renew your ip on Computer 1, or
  2. hard-reboot your cable modem and then reboot or renew your ip on Computer 1.
Details below.

The modem is communicating with the servers at your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to give your computers an IP address. The ISP may have your modem set up to be issued only one IP address. Thus using both USB and Ethernet could be restricted by your ISP.

The IP address is most likely a dynamic IP that expires after a few days or weeks, unless you bought a business account that has a static IP (which is used for hosting permanent websites).

When a computer is not communicating with a Cable Modem or you shift between the connections on the modem, it may be necessary to re-establish configurations. The following can be steps to reset all components to re-establish configurations:
  1. Do a hard-reset on the modem. On the back of the modem is a reset pinhole. If you press the button quickly, this can soft-reset the modem, just restarting the modem. If you press the button and hold it for more than 10 seconds, this can hard-reset the modem, thus resetting and re-establishing configuration with the ISP servers.
  2. Restart the computer or at the command prompt (Start | Run | Cmd | Enter) issue two commands ... "ipconfig /release" and then "ipconfig /renew". This will release your IP and request a new one from your ISP.
These steps are required when adjustments occur especially when shifting between connections on the back of the modem.

SOURCE: trouble connecting netgear wireless router to rca modem DCM425

First try connection the Yellow ethernet cable from the rca modem to your computer's network connection. If you get a connection this way, then your modem will work with a ethernet cable. If not, then call Comcast for help. The modem ethernet out to computer port must be connected to the wan line of the router. Then you can connect an ethernet cable from your computer network connection to one of the 4 ports of the router. For wireless connections you must set up the router and wireless adaptor with the same settings to connect. Follow the routers directions.
Good Luck

SOURCE: i lost the disk for the RCA DCM425 digital cable

Hello Friend,
If you didn't change anything in modem side, that means the modem is still connected to internet. in this case you can connect the modem to your computer via the Ethernet cable. with this cable you will not need to install anything on your computer, just plug the Ethernet cable to the RJ45 port and start browsing internet.
The only case when you will need the drivers is when you want to connect the modem to your PC via USB cable.
Here is a link where you can find everything about your modem: quick guide, user manual, usb drivers ...
Best Regards,

When I connect my modem to my laptop, all the lights come on except the pc link light. I have already unplugged it and reset it and it still doesn't work. What more can I do?

If the ONLY light not illuminated is your PC link light then that generally indicates a physical disconnect between the modem and the laptop. If you can get the PC link light to light up when connecting to any other device (computer, router, anything), then you are most likely looking at the ethernet jack on the laptop being burnt out. Otherwise, try swapping the ethernet cord. If a different ethernet cord does not resolve the issue and the PC link light does not come on no matter what the modem is plugged into, you are looking at a faulty ethernet jack on the modem.

What light needs to be ON on the cable modem?

The first four lights should be on. Internet / PC Link / Cable Link / Cable Activity. The "PC Link" and "Cable Activity" lights will blink. The "Internet" and "Cable Link" lights should be solid green. That's 4 lights on when all is good. I hope that this will help.

Any questions you may still have I will be glad to answer.

Thanks,
JHH

Not getting an internet connection. The pc link and internet lights are flashing green.

Have you tried removing the AC power from the modem for at least 10 seconds, and then re-applying power? This will cause your ISP to reconnect and reassign your IP address. Then your modem should allow you to connect.
