SOURCE: dell latitude e6400 hard drive failures - is this

have you tested the hdd? i believed dell system has quick test for ram and hdd. try this one, turn off system, press and hold on the Fn key then press once the power button while holding the Fn key. a quick test will appear to check the integrity of the hdd. if the hdd failure after the dell logo then like msgs such as no device found just try to reseat the hdd. this will not void your warranty since the hdd is a customer replaceable unit according to dell terms.

Try cleaning it at first.. If you are experienced enough, try to open it and inspect the wiring and the connections. If that doesn't help - new keyboards for dells are ranging from 25 dollars up on Ebay and newegg.com

Copy and paste issues

Annoying problem if you rely 100% on keyboard shortcuts! I had the same problem and the fix is very easy. You will need to uninstall your keyboard driver and restart your computer and your CTRL keys will function once again. To do this:

1) Click Start
2) Control Panel
3) Printers and Other Hardware
4) Keyboard
5) In the Keyboard Properties window, click Hardware
6) Click Properties
7) Click Driver
8) Click Uninstall, click OK
9) Restart your Computer

Fn key not working on Dell Latitude E6400

one quick simple test to see if the key works is hold the Fn key and press the power button on a clod boot from power off state. If the PSA diagnostics start the Fn button is functional, and we'll need to troubleshoot other issues.
If the PSA diagnostics do not start, then reseat the keyboard (It has a slot connector into the palmrest) and see if that resolves. If still no change, replace 1st the keyboard, and if that doesn't resolve the palmrest.

it looks like a hardware issue. try it if in safe mode it still has the same problem. if so, then replace your kb. and if not, try system restore. type system restore on the start search when you click the start menu. choose the date when your keyboard was working fine.
