You can't. The 5700 is a still camera, with no video recording capabilities.

at the back of the camera next to the view finder (bottom right hand corner) is a button and icon marked SEL. pressing this button toggles the lens image from the view finder to the lcd screen and back again. IF neither view is available then I suspect your camera needs some TLC at a repair shop. hope this helps.

SOURCE: Nikon coolpix 5700 shows no memory left after purchasing a new card & batteries

The largest CompactFlash card that Nikon approved for the 5700 is 256MB, which is what I'm using in my 5700. That's small by today's standards and you probably won't even find it in stores. I see some web sellers have 256MB cards for only $6 or so. Other commercial card sellers on the web claim that the 5700 will handle CF cards up to 1GB capacity. That's what I might try since online they're selling for as little as $8 plus shipping. Given that the 5700 was introduced in 2002, any cards bigger than 1GB probably won't work.

SOURCE: Trying out new 4G SanDisk cf memory drives in Nikon Coolpix 5700

There is a simpler solution. Just do this: 1. format the card in the camera 2. Connect it via card reader to your PC 3. Copy a little over 2Gb of data to the card - to a different folder 4. Put the card into the camera 5. It should work now... This way you can save some valuable data to the remaining 2 gigs of the card. Note: This has been tested on Nikon Coolpix 5400, but should work on 5700 as well

Hi.

From what I have heard Nikon has recalled the Coolpix 5700 because of the SB error. It has something to do with a connector coming away from the printed circuit board. I recommend that you get in touch with Nikon and see if they will repair the flash for you. Click on the link below to contact them.

I am having a nikon coolpix digital camera But it does not work as web cam. Can someone tell how it works as Web cam

The 5700 is designed to store images (and videos) to memory, not to stream live video to another device. It cannot be used as a webcam.

I know this wasn't the answer you wanted to see, but there it is.

Don't buy a CF card bigger than 2mb - the camera will not write to it.

When you take a picture it has black line across it

seems like this is a banding problem. Nikon has issued a service advisory on some of their Coolpix models including the 5700. So they will fix this issue free of cost. This is an issue with the sensor. Please contact the nearest authorized service center.

Call Nikon concerning your camera. You can send it to them, they will estimate it, and may repair it for free if it is the ccd problem.
