SOURCE: Bobbin thread breaks

Make sure your bobbin thread is turning clockwise as it sits in the bobbin case. There is a screw on the outside of the bobbin case you can turn with your thumb slightly to adjust tension. If you dangle the case from the thread and give it a light ****, it should move down slightly when doing so-an indicator of good bobbin tension.

SOURCE: thread shreds with Pfaff

I have the book on that machine as well and I have had that problem. Here is what had happened to me: I was soooooo tired of that shreading thing that I took a flashlight and aimed it up the nose of the machine by the lightbulb and fould there to be a nice little rats nest wrapped around the take-up lever and the needle bar. I spent the next three hours getting to that nest with the skinniest and longest tools I could find. Oh it is was fun!

SOURCE: Needle thread looping underneath, threads not interlocking at all

If the machine is now threaded, lift the presser foot.

Now, pull about 10" of thread through the needle.

The next time you thread the machine, lift the presser foot first.

When the presser foot is up, the tension control opens and allows the thread to "seat" into the control, then when the foot is down the control closes to the indicated setting.

When threading the machine with the foot is down, thread does not enter the tension control and when you start to sew, there is no tension on the thread.

No tension = loosey, goosey, loopy stitches underneath.

Because the lack of tension on the top thread, the bobbin thread cannot lock a proper stitch.

SOURCE: top thread breaking

I would try loosening the tension a little. Is it real cheap thread? Sometimes that will give you a problem. I would look into the owners manual for more suggestions.

SOURCE: Hello! My reliable 1222 has hit a snag. When try to sew, the top thread is not being picked up by the bobbin thread. How can I fix it? Pavla

try changing the needle
clean under the needle plate & in bobbin area for loose threads & lint
try rethreading the machine top & bobbin, make sure to get every thread guide
make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly in the bobbin case

How do I stop my tread from popping on my Brother (17 stich) sewing machine?

Breaking thread? Presumably the top thread? AVOID old or bargain bin threads. The upper tension is too tight or the thread is not properly seated in the tension disk, the needle is defective or the needle, needle eye/scarf is not the best choice for the fabric/thread being used, there may be a snag in the bobbin area that is catching the thread. Make sure the thread is not catching on the spool's thread notch.

Why the thread cracked with when i sticked with the machine

Thread breakage could occur for several reasons.

First, try a brand new needle.

Second, use only good quality thread--NOT old thread or bargain bin varieties.

Third, when threading the upper thread, be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot throughout the threading process.

Verify that the thread path is correct (consult the owner's manual). Incorrect threading will usually break the thread.

Check that the upper thread tension is set at the midway point between the high & low numbers.

Check your threading path with your manual. If, you look up your manual online at brother.com it can be made larger and you may spot your mistake easier.

Top thread keeps breaking

This sounds like a backwards needle. Take out the needle and when you re-insert it back in, make sure that put the flat side to the back.

My lowerlooper thread keeps breaking. I can only

The lowerloop thread kept getting cut by the upperlooper.....I rethreaded the machine in order and then made sure that the lowerlooper thread was UNDER the part of the machine that makes the looks the loopings (silver part that comes to a point on the right side of the needles...sorry I don't know what to call it) and the upperloop was ON TOP of the same part.....it started working great. I actually have very nice tight stitches now.

Brother XL-5340 sewing machine

Try a new needle, making sure it is put in properly. A bent needle can break thread. Make sure top tension is set properly.
