This error is caused by a near flat BIOS battery. Replace the BIOS battery and then go to the BIOS configuration and set the Date and Time settings etc.
Is it almost a solid line? This may be an application problem. Are you printing text?
I have seen this in two flavors:
1) If there are switch settings for this printer you want to make sure that the printer is set for CR/LF ( Carrier Return/Line Feed). This tells the printer to Return the printhead to the start of the line and the LF command tells the printer to step up the page.
2) If you are connected serially, the parity bit may be set incorrectly. Depending on the parity, the bit could printer if set for even parity but the sending PC is set to EVEN parity can cause a LF command to get ignored and the symptom is the lines print on top of the first line.
To restore to factory settings when you hit the start button the firstscreen that appears has the HP Symbol in the center of the screen. Whenthis appears hit the F11 key. Then follow the on screen instructions. It will offer you to either restore to last saved point or to restoreto factory settings. There are a few other options offered, like do youwant to back up you files etc.
