Yes, you may replace your cable modem. it is best to inform your ISP that it is defective since they may issue you another one if it is covered by the warranty.

The SB4100 is a digital modem that uses cable TV network to provide broadband Internet access, it can't work with an analog telephone line, for this type of Internet access (also called switched Internet connection), you need an analog internal or external 56K modem, and also you'll need a user name and password (an account) from the Internet provider service (ISP) ; for a temporary Internet connection maybe a prepaid cellular modem (GPRS, EDGE, 3G or 4G) USB type could help you better.
For this one the best router that I can think that you can consider in using are this 2 model , for a regular wireless G router you can get this model WRT54G , but if you have a large house and needs a stronger and wider signal for the wireless computers you can get this WRT300N they are both from Linksys.
The modem that you have is getting old and may be going bad but here are a couple of thing to help you out.
Often times this is premises related signal strength issue. Items that you can check. 1. Is the coax line tight in the back of the modem and at the wall. 2.
Are there any splitters where the cable comes out of the wall before it
attaches to your modem. If so remove them and attach the cable directly
to the wall from the back of the modem and power cycle the modem. 3.
Do you have a coax cable line that goes directly from the outlet the
modem is attached to the point that the cable service enters the
household. Each time that you split your coax line it takes away part
of the signal and the more times you split the more likely you are to
not get a connection to the internet
If all of these items are in place and you still are having problems call your service provider and schedule a service call or try a new modem. Good luck.
Hi there. No there's not any additional pages or other technical info on the modem page. All it gives is the mac address and so on, you cannot make any changes to the modem as you will need modem hacking software to do this.
I assume this is a cable modem? You need to call your cable company and have a trouble ticket created. I worked for the cable company installing cable for quite a while and I bet my paycheck the signal getting to the modem are below specs and that's why the modem gets dropping the internet connection.
