My playstation 1 wont read discs what should I do?

if your laser is still good, you can try cleaning the laser lens with a Q-tip and very little alcohol. enough to get the Q-tip wet, but not drip when you press against the lens. spin the Q-tip on the lens with the alcohol, then spin it again with the other tip (dry). this should solve your problem.

My ps2 is getting a disc read error. It is the console, not the disc. How do I fix this? I've heard that you can clean the laser reader with alcohol wipes. Is this advisable, and if so, how should...

If it's the original, fat PS2 go here:
http://www.slideshare.net/Bravo77/ps2-repair-guide

If it's the newer, slimmer PS2.
To clean the laser lens, do the following:
Dip a Q-tip in rubbing alcohol (not dripping) gently place the q-tip on to the lens and gently twirl the q-tip.
Use the other end of the q-tip to gently dry the lens.
Hope this helps :)

Hi ! When I start to play a CD , it will only last for about 30 second , then it suddenly stop playing , what is the problem ?Grateful for help.

Either the laser is failing, or the unit is unable to move the laser along the sled.
Try skipping out to track 5 or so and see if it will play there for 30 seconds, or if it errors out trying to even get there.
If it goes to track 5 and keeps playing to the end, then you need to lubricate the chrome bar that the laser sled slides on. White lithium grease is what I recommend here. Remove the old grease first with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol.
While you're in there, GENTLY clean the laser lens with a clean q-tip and rubbing alcohol.

Sometimes my Bose cd player works and sometimes it doesn't. Why? Where should I have it repaired?A

The problem is in the laser pickup, overtime the laser becomes weak and in some cases will skip or play the odd cd. It is possible the laser lens is dirty and needs to be cleaned, a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol will sometimes bring it back to full operation. "if you can reach it" Dip the Q-Tip in the alcohol and very gently clean in a circular motion, use a fresh Q-Tip to dry off, if no change contact www.bose.com for customer support and ask for technical assistance, since this is a high end product it should be serviced by the people who make it because they have direct access to the parts.

My ps2 wont read the disc

your laser lens might be dirty.
if you have easy access to the laser lens, use a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol (not dripping) to clean it.
gently touch the q-tip to the laser lens and gently twirl it.
use other end of q-tip to dry it, gently twirling it.
or, you could use a laser lens cleaner for video game systems to clean it.
you can get one at walmart or target.
hope this helps :p

How to clean the laser

The laser it's self isn't what you want to clean - it's the lense. I recommend purchasing a CD laser lense cleaning kit from Best Buy. Usually the cleaner looks like any other disk, but it has a small cleaning cloth on it. You load the disk into the machine as you would any CD and the CD player tracks the laser and reader assembley to the position where the small piece of cloth is. As the cloth passes, it wipes the lense clean.
If you must clean the lense manually, I suggest using a Q-Tip and some isopropal rubbing alcohol. Dip the Q-Tip into the isopropal alcohol, and then press the swab of the C-Tip against the inside of the alcohol bottle to remove any excess alcohol from the Q-Tip so you don't have excess alcohol drip down into the laser assembley. CAREFULLY, GENTLY wipe the lense with the Q-Tip, using circular motion. After about 15 - 20 passes with the wet end of the Q-Tip, turn the Q-Tip around and wipe the lense with the dry clean end of the Q-Tip to remove any excess alcolhol and to prevent any residue that may accumulate as a result of the alcolhol drying. Again I stress being gentle because the lense rides in a magnetic field as part of it's focusing function and if you press the lense down too hard, you will damage the focusing coils and the unit will no longer be able to focus onto the disk and won't be able to read anything. Just be gentle, and good luck.
