Av flashing on the LCD. hte shutter won't work and none of the buttons work. I've tried swapping the batteries over so that the top one is ont eh bottom and it worked for a bout 5 minutes. I thought the batteries might be flat so I changed them. It went back to flashing Av again. What is wrong with it?

Hi i will give u the possible solutions. try out these solutions and one among these will work for u

1)you need to go into the menu , select settings and change av appurature setting to 2 instead of 1

2)with the lens compatibility / connection, U can fiddle around with the lens and try to find whether the aperture ring on the lens had moved from the 'A' (auto) setting to the one manual settings and when u switch it back to the 'A' setting it will solve the problem!

3) The lens is not completely set on the mount, maybe a little extra push in the turn may lock it in position properly

4)The contacts are dirty on either the camera mount or lens and it's blocking communication between them (but they hae to be very dirty though)
5)Highly unlikely, but you may have forced the lens into the mount the incorrect way (need to match the red dots). If that's the case you may have damaged both camera and lens.

but try out the solution no.2 that i have provided u... it will fix ur problem perfect

My camera is several years old. The flash stopped working. I replaced the batteries. Any ideas?

Here are some simple things to try first for a camera that won't take a picture when the shutter button is pressed, or with an inoperative flash. They won't work for every case, but they're worth a try:

I have a Cannon PowerShot S2 IS digital camera, about 5 years old. The LCD Monitor and Viewfinder both only show a black screen with some of the Dispay Icons across the top and bottom, and after a few...

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

How do i turn the auto ISO off?

In the Basic Zone modes, you don't. The camera automatically sets the ISO in the range 100-800.

In the Creative Zone modes (P, Tv, Av, M, and A-DEP), press the ISO/Flash Exposure Compensation button (rightmost button in front of the top LCD panel). This will display the current setting on the top panel. While looking at the top panel or in the viewfinder, turn the command main dial (just behind the shutter release button) to change it.

Hello, I went and researched a few points in the manual and hope this helps to some extent. If this doesn't help, try resetting your camera by removing the batteries for 30 seconds, then reinstalling them and turning on the camera again.
Monitor is blank:
• Camera is off.
• Batteries are not correctly inserted or battery-chamber
cover is not properly latched.
• Batteries are exhausted.
• EH-62B AC adapter (available separately) is not properly
connected.
• Camera is in sleep mode. Press shutter-release button
halfway.
• Monitor is off.
• USB cable is connected.
• AV/Video cable is connected

No picture is taken when shutter release button is pressed:

• Camera is in playback mode.
• Batteries are exhausted.
• Red (!) lamp flickers: flash is charging.
• Green (AF) lamp flickers: camera unable to focus.
• Message "CARD IS NOT FORMATTED" appears in
monitor: memory card is not formatted for use in your
camera.
• Message "OUT OF MEMORY" appears in monitor:
insufficient memory to record picture at current Image
mode setting.
