HP photosmart c7280 printing photos with purple hue

HP photosmart c7280 always been good printer with great photo printing, but recently started putting purple hue on pictures. I've cleaned printheads many times, run diagnostic tests, changed out most of ink cartridges. (only use hp ink). Done all hp website suggests except "calibrate color". Can't find where to do this and I'm hesitant to mess with something I didn't need to do before. Any ideas?

Thanks for responding. The C7280 uses 6 ink cartridges (Vivera photo pack is best buy - 6 cartridges plus 4x6 photo paper). I have replaced the magenta cartridge while trying to fix this problem and it did not help. The "purple hue" shows up where dark greys should appear and are a deep, grape purple. On the diagnostic test, all colors (black, light cyan, cyan, yellow, light magenta, & magenta appear correct. Could this be a driver or software problem?

No. I always use the photo paper that comes in the Vivera Photo Pack. I had about 20 photos to print. All printed great until the last 5. I started doing diagnostics, changing ink cartridges, etc. but nothing has helped. HP support suggested changing ink cartridges and cleaning print heads ,which I had already done.

I cannot think of anything left to try. One of the posts on this site mentioned print drivers. Does it make sense that a problem could develop after using the printer sucessfully?

Does the c7280 use seperate Magenta and PhotoMagenta cartridges? If so make certain the right cartridge is in the correct slot.

It could be a software problem, yes.

What about paper? Are you using different paper?

HP7660 Photosmart Printer

It comes with HP #57 (C6657 A)—Tri-color print cartridge and HP #56 (C6656A)—Black print cartridge and the 56 must always be in there (the black one) but acceptable replacements for the color one are as follows: HP #58 (C6658A)—Photo print cartridge I suggest for the best photos use 58 and 56.

Ink Color Issues

Did you change any of the configurations on your printer. Most photo printers have color settings that are media dependent. It sounds like you might have it set to print on regular paper but not on photo paper. There are a lot of settings that you can accidentally change on a printer so I would suggest uninstalling the printer then reinstalling it and see if that is the issue.

HP 7550 PhotoSmart Printer prints photos with an unpleasant green hue.

If it's a B&W or sepia photo, and you wanted to print B&W or grayscale anyway, pull the color cartridge (assuming a 2 cartridge system). I did that with my HP DJ 5440 and it works perfectly.
