Hi, I have an LG side by side fridge/freezer model no: GR-B206GTQA that I have recently purchased second hand. When I plug the unit in it runs ok for approximately 10 minutes and then the condenser fan stops and then an error code ER CF is shown on the display. The codes indicates a problem with the fan. I have cleaned the condenser fan and coils etc as this area was thick with dust and fluff and I have replaced the fan motor with a new one which is the correct motor for this model but nothing has changed. When plugged in the compressor runs fine (no clicking) the coils heat up and the fridge/freezer cools but the fan will only run for approximately 10 mins. When the fan stops (this is when the error ER CF appears) the compressor continues to run and I have noticed that the edge of the divide between the fridge and freezer section gets hot. I had also noticed that the bottom of the evaporator cover inside the freezer looked a little warped/melted, I removed the cover to find that some of the fins on the evaporator had been damaged/bent, I have done my best to separate and straighten the fins so although these are now not touching each other they still out of shape. Could this damage in any way be associated with the fan not working as it should? I should also mention that if I turn off the fridge and leave it for only several minutes the fan doesn't come on at all but if the fridge is left unplugged for several hours the fan will run but only for approximately 10 minutes before stopping and the error message is displayed. I cannot find a suitable solution online anywhere and would be very grateful to anyone who can help me. I can attach a video or photos is this would help. Many Thanks, Lee
Hi Munene. Thanks for your response. Where exactly would I find the relay? Behind the display panel or under the cover on top of the unit? How would I check it? Thanks again, Lee.Hi Munene. Check the freezer:
If your fridge does not have an auto-defrost function then excessive ice-build up in the freezer can cause the beeping alarm. If you see a lot of ice build-up in the icebox or freezer, switch off the fridge and let the ice thaw. Once the fridge is thawed, the beeping should stop.
might be door switch or blub inside the fridge or here is a video to check the switchs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTewh4hk1V0 that might be why the lcd is off to if the switch is bad
Borrow all the picnic coolers you can, unload and turn off unit. You might even need a couple pounds of dry ice.
Then remove the defrost drip tray and empty it. Then its OK to defrost the unit. Trying to remove ice while operating is risky and you may end up with a replacement on your hands. Don't rush it, but sometimes a hair dryer on low can help (Just left inside the door) just make sure it is kept dry.
You probably need to replace the fan blade or housing. They are available online and are not too much more of a job than the fan motor was. It was likely not the fan motor giving you the problem since they are rather strong.
The fan is almost certainly run by a sensor in the condenser. If it doesn't get hot enough, the fan doesn't run. Sounds like short of gas. Try wiring the fan to the compressor live and see if it runs all the time then.
If you transported it on its side or carried it on its side for a while and did not allow about six hours standing time before switching it on, you may have burned out the motor because the oil/gas mixture will have been dispersed into the system and needs time to drain back into the compressor. In this case there is nothing to do but call in a repairman and possibly replace the compressor..
Did you check the plug its self ? By plugging a lamp in the plug where the refrigerator is pluged into ? If the wall plug is good (could there have been bad weather) and then you plug fridg. back in and no positive results check to see if the inside light bulbs are good and work.
on the back wall inside the freezer unscrew the white panel and then remove the panel behind this . you should now see a tray that runs the width of the freezer with a driphole on the left-hand side which will probably be frozen with ice , chip away whatever is possible and then put boiling water on the driphole and once this is clear you should find the problem sorted , 1 other option is to turn the fridge/freezer off for several days and this will allow the ice build-up to thaw thus resolving the problem
