Your laser is dead. You've got to replace it.

That's it.

The disk do`snt spin

No Spin At All

If your spindle hub is NOT SPINNING AT ALL,
NOT EVEN 1/2 OF A TURN, it may be bad or unplugged.
A tell tale sign of it being unplugged is if you hit
eject, the laser moves down the rail, and starts
grinding because the PS2 keeps trying to move it
down the rail even though it hit the end. There's a
small switch on the spindle hub that tells the unit
to stop pushing the laser because it's reached the
end. Spindle hubs usually do not go bad by themselves,
usually either the PS2 too a bad fall and it became
bent [try spinning it by hand], or someone the cable
out and put it in too many times [or incorrectly] and
the silver contacts on the cable were detached.
Reasons for 1/2 spin:

1. A dirty laser. Try cleaning the laser and see if it helps.
If you can see crust or dust covering the laser eye, it may
not be strong enough to read anything at all. If the laser
looks clean, this is probably not the issue.

2. An unplugged laser cable. These things normally do not come
out by themselves, but if you opened the ps2 that was spinning
OK to clean the laser and/or removed the laser to clean it,
plugged it in, now it's spinning 1/2 of a turn, the laser cable
may not be in securely. If it is in securely, make sure it is
plugged into the motherboard end properly.

3. A dead laser. On models 30001, 35001, and some 30001R, this
is the most likely issue. These models are old and the original
lasers were a bit unreliable.

The disk isn't spinning. When tray closes, it tries to spin for a moment, but then it doesn'tt.

When you first put a CD/DVD into the Playstation 2, the disc spins enough so that the laser can read if it's a CD, DVD movie, DVD ps2 game or CD ps1 or 2 game to spin at the appropriate speed. If there is no disc inside, or the laser thinks there is no disc inside, the disc will only spin that 1/2 of a turn. So what would cause the laser to think there is no disc inside?

I would suggest using a 400C since it is a better laser [and more available] than the 400B. YES, despite anything you have read, you CAN replace a 400B with a 400C IN ALL CASES.

Sony PlayStation 2 - Does not read CD

IT IS THE EYE. the eye th the little shiny piece that you can bairly see once the tray comes out.you might have put a disk in at a wrong position and scratched the eye. replacing it might be what to do, but i would check first.

Ps2 slimline.... disc doesnt spin, laser not flashing or moving... no data on browser

My ps2 has/had the same problem, it wouldn't read DVD movies at all and ps1 games were always hit or miss. The only two solutions i can suggest are cleaning the lens or replacing the little cotton pad that holds the disk in place near the laser. This seemed to fix it for me, it works about 85% of the time now. Hope one of these helps

PS2 Slim New Lens, Not Spinning

Hi guys,
Well, there is 2 switch. one at  the back left of the cd tray and one one the reset /power switch. both sitch have to be close in order for the disk to spin.
If you try this dont forget to put a disk on the spindle as you will start the laser. this is for your safety. then, if the disk does not spin, then you can try replacing the laser. or at least verify the ribbon cable that is hook to it. if the ribbon cable is not well inside the plug the laser might move but again the disk won t spin.
it is related to each other, the PS2 seem to verify the laser prior to start the spindle so what ever happend to the laser affect the spindle.
and then, if you buy a new laser lens, don't forget to remove the soldering bridge. it is a small ball that is use to avoid static while shiping the lens.
most of the seller will include a small peace of paper with procedure and also there is web site with picture of this soldering bridge.
I replace some of them, and I have to say that the small plastic lock for the ribbon  cable to the lens has been an issue and the soldering bridge another one.
but I got most of the PS2 back and running by replacing the laser.
I hope this will help you.

Disk wont spin

are you a cute blond? i give you alot of credit, but your going about it wrong.
1.you need to know if there is red/blue coming out of the laser.
2.is the laser focusing (moving up and down)
3.the spindle height has to be at the correct height for the laser to read the disk (thus spinning it) and the spindle also had had problems with this unit. (you can clean it up )
4. once it spins the disk it has to read the TOC (table of contents)which means it has to move to the inner most part of the cd
5 send me you name address and if your busy friday! lol

Ps2 slim line

if the laser is moved to the middle of the area and when you first turn it on it doesn't go back to starting possession's then some thing is wrong with the motor drive more than not it's likely you have a crack in the board.
