A driver must come along with your sound card..shutdown PC..open casing and insert sound card in appropriate slot..turn PC on...right click My Computer..properties...hardware then device manager..on device manager click action then scan for hardware changes..the new found hardware wizard should pop up upon detecting the newly installed sound card..insert installer CD and follow instructions on the wizard... when finished restart and enjoy..

What BIOS settings have to be changed to recognize a sound card?

New systems have integrated sound cards, so most likely it just the drivers you need,

However, if you have a PCI add on card it should be plug and play. Again you may need the drivers or setup the PCI card so it recognizes it.

If you have an antiquated system then you need to find and adjust the IRQ settings in BIOS. Some software like games also have specific IRQ setting so there are no conflicts. I am talking old like Win 3.1, 95, or 98.

Audo card how to replace

Open pc, remove sound card if not inbuilt to the motherboard, install new sound card into pci slot, close pc. Turn on.

I inbuilt sound card, boot up and hold del button to enter setup. Disable the inbuilt audio.

Boot up and insert disc with audio drivers for new sound card. Done.

The sound card will have one screw holding it in place to the case.

Onboard sound card does not seem to be working can anolther card be purchased for this board and if so what?

cmi 8738 is a cheap solution. first disable the on board ac97audio in bios setup, then install the pci card into the pci slot. usually the system can find the sound card and auto install driver , if not, setup the driver manully.

I dont know how to install my sound card...what shall i do? pls help me

It sounds like you just bought a sound card. I must assume that you got a retail version that fits in your computer.
It's probably a PCI card that fits in one of the PCI slots (the white ones) on your motherboard.
So--you can first run the setup CD that came with the card. Then you will have to shut off the computer and install the card. Restart the computer and it should find the drivers that you just installed.
When all else fails, read the instructions that came with the card.

Connecting to computer

First, check all cords of course. Make sure power is in an outlet that works, green cord with the green port on the computer. (Check that you are plugging the right colors together, if so look below)

If you could tell me what type of sound card your computer has, I can guide you through.

(Sound cards)
There are PCI sound cards or/and Integrated sound cards for most situations. A PCI sound card would mean that you have a physical card which would look like this, with more or equal speaker jacks :

Or if you have an Integrated sound card then the back of your computer might look like this (Sound portion includes the 3 female jacks furthest to the right):
