What is the joystick flash code meaning - Health & Beauty

Most of the time a flash code of 8 means the controller has a fault. but sometimes there maybe a damaged cable connecting the joystick to the controller.Sorry for the bad news.

The M51 could have the motor clutch levers in the free wheel/push mode and the joystick will not blink if this is the case. Make sure that the chair cannot be pushed. If it can be pushed it means it is in free wheel and you need to lock the motors in gear.

If it is in gear and the joysticks green light does not change color or blink it could be that the joystick is bad. When nothing happens and the lights don't blink when you push the joystick knob the chairs controller basically isn't recognizing the joystick movement.
Time to have the joystick repaired or more. Have a technician look at it.

With most wheelchair electronics a 7 flash means the joystick is bad. A 7 flash means "joystick is out of neutral".

According to Pride's troubleshooting documents the service indicator (wrench icon) will flash when a fault is detected by the dynamic controller.

The number of flashes, followed by a 2 second pause, indicates the issue. You will need to count the flashes to determine the cause and a possible solution.

VSI Code 8: Controller Error...

This problem may depend on which main controller your chair has fitted. It should be a Penny & Giles GC controller. US versions should have a GC3 whilst here in the UK, it would be fitted with a GC2. However, the diagnostic flash codes for these two controllers should be the same. The reason im slightly confused is that you say 5 flashes mean your charger is connected at power up, when in fact it should be a Right Motor Wiring Fault. 9 flashes is indeed a Solenoid Brake Fault, or in other words, the wheelchair is in 'Free Wheel' as you have described. Therefore, IF your controller is in fact a Penny & Giles GC, 7 flashes would mean a Joystick fault. There is not much you can do to diagnose this other than checking connections between the Joystick and main controller. If these are OK, it is likely that a new Joystick controller will be required as having these fixed is usually not cost affective. Hope this is of some help to you.

The VSI joystick controller of the Jet 3 with a flash code of 7 LEDs flashing on the battery condition display indicates a possible joystick fault.
The most likely problem is with the joystick gimble. You can also get a 7 bar flash if the joystick is out of the neutral position at start-up.
Run the joystick in a circle and back and forth feeling for any sticky or broken/dead spots. Check to see if the spring and gimble come back to center when you release it. Turn off the VSI and try centering the joystick. Turn the VSI back on and see if you can get the fault to clear.
The only recourse is to have the unit rebuilt or replaced . A rebuilt VSI will run about $500 and a new one about $1600. For this reason it is best to check with your insurance before performing the work to see if its a covered item. Hope this helps

These are called VSI error lights. The VSI is the fancy name for your electronic controller. [Basically the joystick :) ] The number of times they are flashing, gives you the codes of the problem. The system locks until it is sorted to prevent injury. Follow the link below for the User Manual for your model. First check page 37 to see if it isn't just locked, then page 38 for code meanings. If its flashing lots, most of those high numbered ones are just a case of checking things are all plugged in tight.
