See other solutions posted here about downloading new firmware. Included is holding down the play button when you turn it on and connect it. Click the box to reformat the disc and install ver 1.5 or later of firmware. It wipes the drive but it works. Good luck!

Problem is I don't have the CD

Hello,
Overview support site for the RCA S2001 can be reached here:
http://support.rcaaudiovideo.com/product.aspx?product=124

Manual for the S2001;
http://www.voxxsupport.com/images/manuals/S2001/media/S2001_UMEN.pdf
The manual shows 3 ways how to perform transfers between the player and a computer.
  • In Windows Explorer
Exploring ''My Computer'' seeing the player as a removable disk, media
can be transferred like normally putting files to a external device. Always remember to safely remove hardware connection of the player before disconnecting the device.
  • Using Windows Media Player 11
The Media Player supported by Microsoft Windows. Run WMP11 to
see the player as a media device. Transfers to the player can be made
making playlists and synchronizing them to the S2001.
For updating WMP11 go to the original site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx
  • Using Yahoo! Music Jukebox
Music Jukebox of Yahoo! is also a software utility for transferring your music to the player. The Yahoo! Jukebox contains links for buying music to download (there is a free trial).
This software is difficult to download directly form the original site.
When still wanting to use it, get a download from e.g. next site:
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,6152-order,1-page,1-c,alldownloads/description.html

When having problems with the player, there''s a firmware installation
download available.
Performing reinstallation of the firmware will delete all content from the player.

An error on my rca mp3 jet says fat error

Not really sure of the options there but here is a fix that works on rca H106

Go to settings and go to advanced press play once only. Plug into computer and it wil recognize it as a flash drive. Completely Format the drive then unplug the player from computer. It will switch back to previous setting automatically. If you need to update drivers and firmware use the auto updater from http://www.voxxsupport.com/images/downloads/autoupdater.exe

Fat Error. Error! Reformat external media with Sigma Tel Formatter

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!
try this steps...(pardon my english)
1. if you have another flash disk drive, connect it to your pc...
it should say " removable disk (E)or stuff.. haha)"
2. right click on it and select "format"
3. tick the quick format box and change the format type into FAT
4. do not start yet! as quick as you can, conect your f*%ked up RCA device...
5. wait till the "removable disk (E)" appears or whatever the letter is, just make sure that it is the same as the previous letter in step1 was... then click start... you may not actually wait

it worked for me...

goodluck guys!

Memorex MMP3642A - SigmaTel format

A few suggestions:
1] I’ve tried using a 1GB sd card in the MMP3642A with no success. Interestingly, I can transfer files to the 1GB card when it is in the MMP3642A, but when I turn on the player to listen to the files, I get the sigmatel formatter error message. I tried running the sigmatel formatter, but it doesn’t understand the 1GB size. Apparently whoever programmed this braindead formatter program only programmed it for up to 512MB sd cards. Interestingly, I tried flashing this player with the MMP8500 firmware, and then the player does play files off of the 1GB sd card, but the LCD is mostly cutoff and only 25% of the LCD shows up. So it seems the only obstacle to using a 1GB sd card is this stupid formatter program. I tried formatting the sdcard to fat16 instead of Fat32, but that did not help

2] If you want to use a card with more than 64MB, you need to use the CD that was with the player. DO NOT USE AUTORUN! Explore the disc, go into the "products" folder, run the stusbmscformat.exe application. It will show a the drive letter for the player, click the arrow and select the next drive letter down, then press start. This worked for me, I hope it will be useful. Why memorex doesn’t address this issue is beyond me.

3] How do I correct the error: Reformat external media with sigmatel formatter? If you have installed the software disc that you received with your MP3 player, you will need to follow these instructions; -- From your computer, click 'START' -- then 'PROGRAMS' -- then 'MEMOREX' -- then 'FORMAT' -- choose the 2nd drive If this doesn't correct your error, you will need to return the memory card to the retailer for an exchange. connect your memorex mp3 player , then turn it on and click start .....i did the same and its working now.
