How to get rid of the ask toolbar?

To uninstall Ask toolbar from your computer, you can follow the steps below:
1.To uninstall "Ask Toolbar" program from Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, click the "Start" button, then click on "Control Panel". If you are using Windows 8, drag your mouse pointer to the right edge of the screen, select "Search" from the list and search for "Control Panel".
2.When the "Control Panel" window opens click on the "Uninstall a program" option under "Programs" category.
(Note: If you are using the "Classic View" of the Control Panel, then you need to double-click on the "Programs and Features" icon instead.)
3.When the "Programs and Features" or the "Uninstall a Program" screen is displayed, scroll through the list of currently installed programs and uninstall "Ask Toolbar, Ask Toolbar Updater, Ask Updater" and any other recently installed or unknown programs.
Once you have successfully uninstalled the above mentioned applications from your system, you also need to reset your browser to remove Ask toolbar and Ask.com from the respective browser. To do this, refer to the steps listed below:
(Important: While resetting your browser(s), go through the on-screen instructions very carefully to understand what all changes will be made in your browser once it is reset.)

To reset Internet Explorer:
1.Open Internet Explorer, click on the "gear icon" in the upper right part of your browser, and then click on "Internet Options".
2.In the "Internet Options" dialog box, click on the "Advanced" tab, then click on the "Reset" button.
3.In the "Reset Internet Explorer settings" section, select the "Delete personal settings" check box, then click on the "Reset" button.
4.When Internet Explorer has completed its task, click on the "Close" button in the confirmation dialogue box. You will now need to close your browser, and then you can open Internet Explorer again.

To reset Mozilla Firefox:

1.In the upper-right corner of the Firefox window, click the Firefox menu button ( ), and then click on the "Help" ( ) button.
2.From the "Help" menu, choose "Troubleshooting Information".
(Note: If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting information page.)
3.Click the "Reset Firefox" button in the upper-right corner of the "Troubleshooting Information" page.
4.To continue, click on the "Reset Firefox" button in the new confirmation window that opens.
5.Firefox will close itself and will revert to its default settings. When it's done, a window will list the information that was imported. Click on the "Finish".
(Important: Your old Firefox profile will be placed on your desktop in a folder named "Old Firefox Data". If the reset didn't fix your problem you can restore some of the information not saved by copying files to the new profile that was created. If you don't need this folder any longer, you should delete it as it contains sensitive information.)

To reset Google Chrome:
Before resetting Google Chrome, you first need to remove Ask toolbar extensions from it, change your default search engine, and also change the homepage. To do this, refer to the following steps:
To remove Ask toolbar extensions:
1.Click the Chrome menu button on the browser toolbar, select "Tools" and then click on "Extensions".
2.In the "Extensions" tab, remove (by clicking on the Recycle Bin) the Ask Toolbar and any other unknown extensions from Google Chrome.
To change default search engine:
1.Click the Chrome menu button, then select "Settings", and click on "Manage search engines" in the "Search" section.
3.In the "Search Engines" dialog that appears, select "Google" and click the "Make Default" button that appears in the row.
4.Search for "Ask.com" in the Search Engines list, and click the "X" that appears at the end of the row.

To change default Homepage:
1.Click the Chrome menu button, and then select "Settings"
2.Go to "On Startup" section and select "Open the New Tab page"
To reset Google Chrome:
1.Click the Chrome menu button, and then select "Settings"
2.Click on "Show advanced settings" at the end of the page and go to "Reset Browser Settings" at the bottom of the page
3.On the dialogue box that opens, click on "Reset"

To reset the setting on Internet Explorer: - click on tools on the upper right - click on internet options - click on advanced tab - click on reset button For Google Chrome: - just delete the following folders - For Windows XPC:\\Documents and Settings\\UserName\\Local Settings\\Application Data\\Google\\Chrome\\Application
For Windows Vista or later
C:\\Users\\UserName\\AppData\\Local\\Google\\Chrome\\Application For Firefox: you can try to use Firefox in Safemode - a box will appear to ask you what you need to do with Firefox. - then you will asked to restart Firefox again.

Error 7

To resolve this issue, delete the Application folder, then try installing again. Follow these steps (for Windows):
  1. Go to the Start menu > Run.
  2. Enter one of the following commands in the text field, depending on your operating system.
    • Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome
    • Windows Vista: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome
  3. Click OK.
  4. Delete the Application folder. If you're having difficulty deleting this folder, check for active Google Chrome processes on your computer and end them. Here are a few ways to locate and shut down these processes:
    • Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete on your keyboard and click Task Manager. Click the Processes tab and end every process that includes "google" or "chrome" in its name.
    • Download a third-party program called Process Explorer at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx. Use its Find menu to search for "Chrome/Application," then end all resulting processes.
Now try deleting the Application folder again.
  5. Once the Application folder is deleted, try installing Google Chrome again.

How do i change to google browser

Navigate to http://www.google.com/chrome and press the big blue button.
The browser may ask you about what to do with the download. If there is a button "Run", click on it and allow any operations performed by the installer. At the first launch of Google Chrome, you will be asked whether Chrome should be the default web browser. Click on Yes, and there you are.
