Check the RF output transistor, usually heatsinked to the inner chassis, microphone wiring needs to be checked for breaks since it is part of the circuit, sub another if possible.

SOURCE: rci 2990 will not key up.

Bad or incorrectly wired mic (broken wires in mic or cable) OR transmit circuit has failed.

Someone with a Dummy load/watt meter can test this safely.

Trying to wire a 56 for a tristar 120. any ideas?

I think you are talking roadking 56, take the end of mike apart, you will need a 4 pin mike end, solder, steady hand,or small clip vise like I use,it takes just a little dab of solder for each wire, don,t over do it,trim each mike wire one eight inch back, slide the mike end on the cord,do not forget the plastic insulator, then solder the white (audio) to pin 1. then solder the shield and red together to pin 2,then solder the black (receive) wire to pin 3, then solder the blue (transmit) to pin 4. Then put it back together. ..hope this helps..

I have a cobra 148gtl with 5 pin side plug for mic.Im trying to wire a superstar dm 1000 echo mic to it,red, yellow, blue, white,& unsheilded wires dont know were they go.???????

ALLways start with ground. Find ground on radio pin with ohm meter. EVERY thing operates off ground. Once you find ground on radio....solder your ground wire on mike cord to corresponding # on mike jack. Once you have ground on proper pin then all else is elementary......use ohm meter to see which wires are TX and RX on mike.....last wire is audio wire.

Check the mike plug to make sure that none of the wires have broke off.I would also check the mike cable with an ohm meter.
