I have a Toshiba TV that worked very well for 5+ years. A few months ago we noticed that the bottom of the picture would "bounce" up when we first started turned it on. After a while it would come back down and look "normal". It has gotten much worse over time though. Now when we first turn it on, the top and bottom of the picture have condensed into a single horizontal line going through the middle. We figured out that when we hit the bottom of the TV that the picture starts to "bounce" back. If we wait for the TV to warm up and hit it, we can usually get it to expand back to where it should be. Sometimes we have to do this several times before it "sticks" where it should be. Is this a fixable problem... is the set worth saving?
Yes it sound like 1 or 2 bad solder joints.
It's an easy 15min fix for a good shop.
ask the shop if they could re solder it for 100.00
doesn't hurt to ask.
This sounds like a loose connection in the vertical circuit . The vertical IC would be the main suspect . These run somewhat warm and can the solder joints to expand and contract . Now what can also happen if you keep running it this way is the IC can become stressed out and finallly give out . Which will basicly give you one thin line side to side or some TV's when this part fails it will shut the tv down . Most shops depending if you can take it to them or if they have to make service the price will vary . Call around to a few local TV repair shops and get a rough estimate over the phone to what it might cost you . I would hope at best for a service it would not cost over $250.00 . Now if you can use a soldering iron you can save alot by soldering the loose connection yourself . Some experience would be required as some cabling straps would need to be loosened and plugs undone . Good luck and let me know how it turns out ( Team Tech )
Bounce horizontally usually means up and down, which relates
to the vertical output IC. Solder IC301, IC401 pin connects==try
again. You can easily isolate "bounce" problems by lightly
tapping on the vertical IC heatsink....Let me know if you need
further assistance.....T.
PS. Though hard to find, a qualified tech could do that repair
in home for 300. to 400.00...
