Nano screen is all white, but works otherwise?

I just got given a free 4gb nano from my girlfriends room mate because the screen doesn't work. I got it, plugged it into her laptop cause the battery was dead. At this point I was stoked because the nano's screen was working fine.

After charging the nano's screen went white. The screen lights up, but its just blank. The touch wheel makes the clicking noise when options are pressed, but nothing shows oup on the screen. I suspect this nano is working other then the screen. The screen did work for a littlewhile, when it told me the battery was dead for instance. Any ideas?

I'm currently using this nano as a USB drive while I see if this problem can be fixed, in that capacity it works fine.

Thanks.

well befor my screen worked fine. But then after I got music form lime wire my screen went blank while Iwas listening to my music. But it would still play music. But I would turn it off and when I turned it back on it worked fine. And after that when I listened to my IPod it did the same thing. But now it will not turn off and when you plug it up to the computer the screen is blank and now it will not play music, turn off, or turn on.

I'm having this problem as well.  After replacing it with a brand new LCD its still the same - a white screen.  On closer inspection, one part of my nano's logic board has a little mildew [which can of course completely short out any activity in that locale - which I'm sure is the cause for our 'white screen'].  Don't really want to splash out on a new logic board, they can be as much as an old, working nano!

Have you tried resetting it to the factory defaults, or tried booting it into a different mode? (like disk mode) to see if there is something funky going on with the settings?

You can try putting it into disk mode by following the instructions here:

It might be the LCD screen. You can take it in to an Apple store and see if they can replace it. Or, you can take the riskier option and try to change the screen yourself (not recommended). It doesn't sound like you'll be able to fix it without taking it in.

My ipod nano 2nd gen's screen won't display anything..

I have had this problem recently myself and would like you to know that it is possible to fix. The white screen error or otherwise known as "white screen of death" is caused by the lcd color screen on the ipod itself. That is why its functions still work but the screen does not. Once you replace the color screen it will be as good as new.

Ipod nano 4gb is frozen

To user VIVS919, even though you lost the reciept you can call apple at 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273) They should replace your iPod under warranty. {Just don't admit to any "accidental" damage}

Try the Five R's suggested by your user's manual - you can get the manual from Apple's website if you have lost it:
Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore
Remember these five basic suggestions if you have a problem with your iPod nano. If
one of the following doesn’t help, read on for solutions to specific problems.
â Reset your iPod nano. See “General Suggestions,” below.
â Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod nano in iTunes.
â Restart your computer and make sure you have the latest software updates
installed.
â Reinstall iPod and iTunes software from the latest versions on the web.
â Restore your iPod nano. See “Updating and Restoring iPod Software” on page whatever.
