Lcd doesnt turn on, and lens stuck open

I just got my camcorder out for the first time in years, and the LCD will not turn on and the lens cover is stuck open. When I flip open the LCD, the lens makes some clicks until the camera automatically shuts off. i have charged the camera for about 10 minutes, so I know it has enough charge to open.

Hi,
did you took off the battery during the time you didn't use the cam, or was it mounted on it ?
if it was mounted on it, it is most certainly dammaged and doesn't keep enought charge. did you try with the charging cable plugged?

Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.

Sony HDR-XR200 lens cover problem

You have two options, replace the motor that opens and closes the lens cover or remove the lens cover shutters all together, and use a 30mm lens cap.

When recording, no picture thru viewfinder or lcd panel. Records sound. Was working fine, just started this, and the lens cap is off. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

It could be either aperture is stuck or ccd imager chip is defective in your camcorder that will be replaced.
In bright light, look into camera lens, turn ON in camera mode and observe does aperture open like an eye?
If you notice some thing opens right in center of camcorder lens then aperture is working and ccd imager chip is bad that will be replaced.
Let me know model number of your Sony camcorder to provide you ccd imager part number info.
Thanks.

Hi, perform the following steps to get this issue resolvbed... 1. Check whether the lens cover is opened 2. check whether the battery is fully charged. If the battery is not fullly charged, connect the Camcorder to the wall outlet using the sipplied AC adaptor. 3. Then, try resetting the Camcorder by pressing the RESET button using a sharp-pointed object while the Camcorder is turned ON. 4. If the issue still persists, turn OFF the Camcorder; then remove the battery pack and discinnect the Ac adaptor from the Camcorder; slide the POWER switch to the ON position for 1 minute. Then, connect the AC Adaptor tro the wall outlet and cjeck whether it helps.
If the issue still persists, service of the unit may require. contact the manufacturer of the Camcorder to get ut serviced.

Sounds like the gears are stuck, the motor is bad or that the potmeter is bad. The only way to fix this is that the camera has to be opened. If you are sending it to repair make sure that it is not to costly to fix. Most times spending a hundred extra dollars would buy you a new camera then repairing the old one.
