Kitchen Aid microwave door outer glass shattered spontaneously. What to do?

Lisa, I do not have a solution, but have the same problem. My KA superba micro has been used about 10 times. While it was off, and while no one was home, the outer glass in the door shattered. I suspect this may be a defect.

Replace inner glass on kitchen aid wall oven

This can be quite a difficult issue to deal with.. This is really a job for a pro technician, honestly. But if you should choose to try it. Remove the oven door from machine, by opening door slightly and looking at hinges you should be able to be able to slide a small arm on the hinge that locks the hinge and stops the door from closing. You then hold door and move toward closing it and lever the hinges out of their space and carefully place door on floor. Then you have to disassemble the door and remove glass. The video below IS NOT EXACT but will help you with what your up against.

TKC 8522/2 top oven outer door shattering

It is not a fault with the door, and this sort of event occurs quite often, so is not uncommon.
All sorts of things can cause this, sudden change in temp, getting the glass wet whilst it is still hot, a knock or bang form an earlier time could have weakened the glass.
The list is quite long..
Depending on your household insurance, some policys cover for breakage of glass fittings, would be worth checking.

I doubt you will get it cheaper any where, Zanussi is a bit of a closed shop.
If you can let me have the exact model no and the er number, I might be able to help you.
As for the reason it shattered, there are numerous reasons for this to happen, too many to go into, but it is a very common problem with cookers..
They do just go without any warning.
A cold kitchen could indeed be a factor, a badly fitting door is another factor, i could go on and on and on!!!!!
There is no one thing it can be put down to.
Plz let let me have the details I ask, and I will see what I can come up with.

not a problem, first you can refer to your user manual as to how to remove door, (pg 21) heres a link if you misplaced it.

the numbers after you model example, kemc308kss** (01,02,03,04) these last 2 digits will also determine which glass you actually have

Once the door is off and you have the correct glass, changing the glass is nothing more then reomving screws from the door frame, layer by layer until you get to the broken pane, not real difficult at all

will need a model number to tell you the correct price ... most will have to replace the door... you can also give sears a call .. if you gripe loud ... they may replace it for you...
