Kenmore 587 I have a Kenmore 587.1414 that is only 2 years old. I can hear it filling with water and then after a while it will drain, but does nothing in between. After the cycle has ran completely, I can open it and the dishers have never got wet and the soap door is open but the soap has just ran down the side of the door. What could be wrong? Motor gone out?

It is either a bad pump or a bad control. Call Sears. Hard for the homeowner to fix. If not in warranty, ask them how much to fix and then decide if the old one is worth the money. If the machine is 10 years old, go for a new one.

There are two ways water can get out of your dishwasher. 1, it the tub is cracked and the water leaks out. If that were happening then you'd probably already know since there would be a lot of water somewhere it shouldn't be. 2, if for some reason the drain pump is "stuck" in the on position and is running while the fill valve is open. You could check this by turning the water to your dishwasher OFF and then set it to run a load. When it attempts to start you should hear the valve open and nothing more. If you can hear the drain pump running then you've narrowed the problem this far. The next step would be confirm that all mechanical switches (and/or relays) are operating correctly. Finally, you may want to look up a schematic/wiring diagram for your model and see if it shows any mechanical switches that control the drain pump (like a "high water level" switch) that could be stuck closed. does the drain line connect to the disposal?if so and dirty water is inside dishwasher the line must be looped under the sink so nothing can run back into the dishwasher,tie the drain line up higher than the disposal or higher than the point where it connects to the drain pipe so nothing can drain back into the washer.are you sure the water is draining out of the machine?fill it up and hit cancel drain and listen to see if you hear it draining in the sink,if the line isn't looped you could have a block in the drain line or in the pump

When the washer initially fills for the wash, is it only hot water entering the drum? Try switching the water temperature between hot and cold as it fills. If any of them show little or no water getting through, it sounds too easy but check to make sure water supply taps are on, and that the cold/hot fill hoses aren't reversed. Remove the fill hoses and check any of the screen filters for blockage (in the hoses and in the inlet water valve). When the machine stops and waits to fill but all you hear is a hum, it sounds like there is power going to the valve but water is not able to get through it.

when you hear the motor running during the wash cycle, check to see if the washer is actually draining instead of washing. this would indicate a stuck open drain valve. (the same motor/pump that washes the dishes, also drains the unit)

That means that eithere the membrane water lever switch is faulty (most common) or that the drain pump solenoid is stuck on open.

Washer is approximately 3 years old. Will not drain or spin. When it tries to spin, clicking noise heard inside of unit. Would a clog insie the lines disable the spin cycle ?

check your curcit board, could take care of the problem
