It's flashing because it's trying to load via the hard drive.

What have you tried so far?

Safe Mode, boot cd, etc?

When you power on the computer.

Press the F8 key every few seconds.

A menu with options will pop up.

Choose SAFE MODE with Command Prompt.

Can you access the bios menu?

It's usually the the F2 or F10 key sometimes the DEL key.

You should see a message that says " Press X to enter the bios menu"

Awesome. I'm glad you've got the warranty.

I hate paying for stuff that shouldn't have broke in the first place.

    Take care!

Why a black screen on xps l701x w7 i7 1.73

Black screen - no flashing white cursor in the upper left corner - no picture at all, i.e. the initial Dell start-up screen doesn't show up either:
- LCD is dead or isn't getting a signal - not an easy fix; or
- the LCD isn't being sent a signal - holding down the function [Fn] key and press display Function key to toggle through its settings (LCD panel only, Rear VGA output only, both LCD and VGA output)

Black screen - flashing white cursor in the upper left corner - the screen goes black after the windows loading screens come up but before the windows login screen comes up - it is probably a windows video driver problem. Try starting in Windows Safe Mode with VGA. Press [F8] after the Dell startup screen disappears to access the windows startup menu

It wont boot, goes to black screen with whit blinking dash

Yes, this sounds like the traditional black screen issue, but it's different! This machine is a Dell Dimension 3000 with XP. System won't boot. After Blue Dell BIOS splash screen with F2 & F12 options, it just goes black. There will ultimately be a white cursor in the upper left hand corner. I can edit BIOS with F2, I can get in to the boot menu with F12, but I can't do anything after that. I can even get in to the Safe Mode menu (F8), but it never boots.

Just installed windows 7 with an external cd/dvd and now it will only boot with the cd/dvd attached. otherwise a black screen appears with the cursor in the top left corner.

when it boots to a flashing cursor in the top left corner and everything else it working, this means that it is NOT finding the operating system on the hard drive, many times due to boot sector issues.
Make sure you set your hard drive to main or first startup device.

Windows does not load after gateway logo

This sounds like you have no operating system on your laptop. I bet someway, just as I did before, you have lost your operating system, and it needs to be reinstalled on your computer.
