I am thinking about programmed obsolescence and shot limit number on my digital camera...

Unfortunately the response you received from Olympus is correct. The Image stabilisation system used in your camera does not use the best approach to overcoming camera shake - rather than a more expensive sensor based system it downgrades the picture quality and in dark (relatively) situations the result is grain in the picture. See bottom of Page 25 in the Advanced Manual (found on the CD which came with your camera). A similar problem occurs if you turn on and use the Digital Zoom available in the camera. Unless absolutely vital for a particular shot turn both off.
Try it and see the benefit.

Turn of "AF Illumination" and it will get rid of it and not cause you other shooting problems.
SOURCE: How do you reset the
Hello coolforcats1, Go to the Olympus website, check support or downloads, check for your particular camera model, check for firmware fixes or upgades, then download and with your camera attached to your PC or Mac, follow the instructions from the website directions for a fix. Another is to have the Olympus disk with the Firmware on it. Another is to locate the reset button on the camera. Another method is to reverse polarity of your batteries for 5 seconds if your camera uses AA batteries. And last method (only for the experienced technician) is to open up the camera and look at the circuit board and find the reset button or internal battery.

The serial number is on the installation disk or the envelope the CD came in, not the camera.
