Windows 8/8.1 does not use the traditional Windows backup utililty that was found in earlier Windows releases. Instead, a tool is built in called File History. There are several ways to get to this, here's one of the ways:

Tap your Windows key to bring up the Start screen. Start typing the words File History and click on File History Settings.

First off....8 is not an upgrade, Win 10 is an upgrade.
Forget looking for any data from your old hard drive as it has been written over and you cannot retrieve it any longer. Just obtain a copy of Windows Ten or pay for a new updated disc. Let Windows format the hard drive and install itself for you.

need to go to bios and do change settings. ive never done it with two hdd's i just partition and dual boot. os's were win 7 64 bit and win 8 64 bit.

Certainly, any files that you write using Windows XP will be able to be read with Windows 7.

Is the Seagate ST3200822AS an External Drive ( like USB connectivity ) or actual Hard Drive ? Even if it is Internal Hard Drive, You can make connect it to Win 7 and still keep it as Seperate Drive.

Connect the Hard Drive to Win 7 PC and Make it Slave ( partition ) by changing the Jumper on the Hard Drive ( jumper is a small pin or a lock that makes a Hard Drive Primary or Slave.

Once you connect the HD to Win 7, you will find new Drives Created in Win 7, this way you will differentiate between the Win 7 Drives and XP Drives

As you know,the Seagate sometimes has the firmware problems,so it seems that this firmware designed only valid in XP or Vista system,you may find the firmware update from the seagate official website

You would need two set of driver:

• motherboard USB drivers;
• mass storage driver from Seagate for Win98.

It could be that it's formatted as NTFS, which Win 98 probably can't recognise. Problem is FAT 32 can't deal with drives over about 80 GB. There may be software patch out there to allow NTFS on Win 98, or (only solution I have used), you could format it as several partitions, including at least one FAT32 for your machine to see.
