Is a cracked screen covered under the warranty?

Hi Abby,

Most manufacturers do not warranty "damage from handling, misuse, neglect, accident" as that is not they way their products are intended to be used. Warranties usually apply to defects in workmanship and failures not associated with the list of things above.

This is why 3rd party warranty companies such as "Square Trade" came into being. These companies will offere to extend your manufacturer's warranty to 2, 3 or more years and offer protection from the types of problems they do not cover - drops, submersion, breakage, etc. Cost is based on the product, cost, length of warranty term and extent of coverage. As long as it wasn't stolen - return all the parts of the covered device for repair, replacement or reimbursement. You can also usually insure these products as a special "rider" on your homeowners insurance, too. Contact your agent to learn about the availability and cost of this coverage.

Good luck!

Emachines D4362 starts only after many button pushes

Sounds like you might have corrupt window system files or the machine might not be recognizing the hard drive.
Press the DEL button to go into the BIOS. Go to the section that shows you the hard drive. If it doesn't show you a hard drive model and shows none then your hard drive is bad and would need to be replaced. If your hard drive is recognized in the BIOS then you'll need to try and reinstall windows. If you can't get windows reinstalled then the hard drive is bad at that point as well.

Sir, i have sony vaio E SERIES VPCEA23EN. Suddenly it stopped working. problem is after switching power on it boots to open either normally or launch startup repair (recommended). In either case it won't...

I would load your recovery discs, that will fix it. The warranty does not cover software, only hardware that fails like display, motherboard, hard drive etc.

Please i need bios password code for eMachines eMD725 Phoenix with 07668 systems. when i want to reinstall the operating system is always constrained by the bios password code.

Hi, The BIOS password is a password that you would have set on the laptop to protect the hard drive and during the installation of Windows you would need to key in the BIOS password so that you can go ahead with the installation of the Windows. If incase you have forgot the BIOS password please contact eMachines if the laptop is covered by warranty so that they would be able to assist you remove the password on the computer. If the warranty has expired then you would need to contact a local technician at your place who would assist you reset the BIOS password which would require opening the case of the laptop and reseting certain cables within the laptop. Thank you for your time and best wishes for your effort.

Warranty question

It is usually determined by the dealer. They look for obvious signs of abuse. If you are still under basic warranty and show receipts of maintenance performed on the vehicle there should not be a problem. Enjoy your new car.

My drive is not recognized

I've had this problem before.

I tried a different cord and it started working again. Additionally i've had this work for me (see below)

Try This:

  1. Unplug all USB devices
  2. Turn off Ext Hard drive
  3. Shut down computer
  4. Power on ext hard drive (then wait like 1 min)
  5. Turn on computer
  6. Wait for windows to finish loading
  7. Plug in the USB cord from the ext hard drive to your computer (may take up to a minute for computer to recognize it)
  8. If it doesn't recognize it then keep trying it in different USB ports
If it still won't recognize get all the latest windows update and reboot. If that doesn't solve your issue try your external hard drive on some other computers, check to see if drive needs special drivers installed (which most don't).

From SimpleTech's website: "1) I have the drive plugged in but I cannot find the drive in "My Computer", why?
The most likely cause would be not enough power provided by a single USB port on your computer. Unplug the portable drive from the cable and unplug the cable from the computer. Now, plug the cable into 2 USB ports directly on your computer. (If you have a desktop, you should plug the USB cable directly into the USB ports on the back of the computer. If this is a laptop, you should plug directly into a USB ports on the computer. Do not plug into a USB hub or docking station). Then plug the drive into the cable. In a few seconds you should see the drive listed in the "My Computer" window as a SimpleDrivePS."

If all that fails you need to RMA (Return to Manufacturer) your external hard drive. Most hard drives have a pretty decent warranty on them. Your simpletech 250GB has a 3 year warranty on it. Info on the warranty can be found at http://www.simpletech.com/support/warranty/. If you want to RMA it, click the "Technical Support / RMA Request" on the left hand side of that page.

Emachine t7242

The ticking sounds like it could be your hard drive failed. The computer is not making any beeps or anything? just the ticking? If the pc is under warranty I would definetly handle it that way. If this is not the answer you are looking for please disregard.
Good luck,
Lee
