Hi,

To confirm that your PC is connected to the router, open a browser and type 192.168.1.1; In most older LinkSys routers, the default username is none/blank and the default password is "admin." Most current Linksys routers,  the username and the password are  "admin."  Once inside the configuration page, click on "Status"; Verify that your Internet Connection has got some numbers such as IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS & MTU.

If none, your router cannot connect to the cable modem, if yes, pls post back the numbers/details. Further, pls add brand/model of your cable modem and your ISP.

In the meantime, you may have to check that all the cables are correctly plug in and that your cable modem & router are getting power from the mains.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back with additional information.  Good luck and kind regards.

How can I connect the router to my laptop if I don't have any internet. I mean I do have internet connection available on my landline but I need to set it all up on the laptop. how can I do this? I...

Use a 2-wire or 4-wire cable to connect from the telephone-jack to the telephone-port on your DSL modem/router combination device.

Use an 8-wire Ethernet cable to connect from one of the 'LAN' ports on the router to the network-port on your laptop.

Then, you will have Internet access, and, if this router also has a "wireless" capability, you can configure it to provide wireless access to your computer(s).

My wifi doesn't connect to any routers but it connect to my laptop ad-hoc.Still i am not able to use internet through ad-hoc.I have tried restoring my iphone, reset and erase settings, reset network...

Ad-hoc is a computer to computer connection.
You need to change the wireless configuration to Access Point (Infrastructure) mode with encryption.

Your wireless card in your computer or laptop needs to be configured with the router's wireless settings eg. the SSID and encryption key
The encryption key (network key) is in your wireless router, without this key the wireless router won't allow the computer or laptop to connect to this wireless router.
The WEP, WPA, WPA2 encryption key is in your router's wireless settings. Log into your router and got to the wireless settings, you will need to get the SSID and the encryption key. Then go to your computer or laptop's wireless card and configure it with the router's SSID and encryption key, so it will then connect to the wireless router and the Internet.

There's no instructions on were any of the wires go to the wireless route(cable not telephone internet) I have internet on my pc but not the lap top please help.

If you are trying to hook up the laptop to the wired connection on your router, then you need a RJ45 type cable sold for about ten bucks. this cable goes into the RJ45 jack on your laptop (looks like a big telephone jack and in any one of the remaining jacks on your router marked 1,2,3 or 4. One of those jacks are occupied by the cable from your computer to your router.

If you are trying to go wireless, then you have to have a built in wireless card or an add on card, and soft ware to access the wireless portion of your router.

Limited or no connectivity to the internet. my setup: the telephone port is approx 30m from where i need internet access. Originally I had a dlink wireless router set up but was connected via cable, now...

On which port of the D-link router did you plug the WRT160N router?

Do this setup.

Disconnect the WRT160N from D-link.

Connect a computer to port 1 of the WRT160N. Access the setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address bar. you may need to type in the username and password for WRT160N. on the setup page Change the LAN IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1. save the settings.

Connect a cable from port 1,2,3 or 4 of the D-link router to the Internet port of the WRT160N. turn off everything then turn them on starting from cable modem>D-link >WRT160N then computer.

You should be able to access the internet.
