Digital camera not working

Hi- I have a Panasonic Lumix digital camera, and recently it has begun to act up. Sometimes it will not turn on, and often it stops working right in the middle of taking a picture. When it does this it will not turn off or do anything, it just stops... almost like freezing. Also, sometimes it helps to take out the battery and put it back in, but not always. Do you have any ideas on what is wrong with it? I've only have it a year and a half. Do you think the battery is going out? Thanks for the help.

The camera itself.

Possibly the shutter release (the "take a picture button") or the mechanism under it is getting stuck down and not coming back up to let you take a second shot.

Try cleaning under there with a can of compressed air. Be careful because the release button is super fragile - looks big but only held on underneath by a tiny stalk about the size of a pin (I know because mine broke off when the camera dropped). Panasonics are light but fragile, others, like Sony, heavier but much more solid.

There should be a button on the camera to turn on the LCD screen so you can see whats going on. Here is a link to the manual. http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMCLZ1.PDF Look on page 10, button 6. After the camera is turned on, wait 20 seconds, then hit that button and see if the screen turns on. Hope that helps.
