How to Configure a Wireless Printer Wireless printers typically come with a transmitter that a laptop, with a wireless adapter, can connect to and print from any location in a home. In order to configure a wireless printer you will need to install the drivers and software from the installation CD that came with the printer. You will be able to run the configuration for the printer driver, for the laptop, at the end of the software installation.
Insert the installation disc for your wireless printer into the drive on your laptop computer.
Wait for the Installation Wizard to appear.
Click the "Next" button to continue and go through each screen to install the software for the printer.
Select the option to "Configure printer driver now" on the last screen of the Installation Wizard.
Click the "OK" button when the Information dialog box appears.
Select the printer port for your printer when the Printer Port Setup dialog box appears.
Click the "OK" button when the "addport" dialog box appears.
Click the "Next" button to continue.
Select your wireless printer from the list of installed printers when the Add Printer Wizard window appears.
Click the "Next" button to continue.
Click the "Connect" button when the Configure Printer Port dialog box appears.
Wait for a connection to be made with the wireless printer and then click the "Finish" button to exit the Add Printer Wizard dialog box.
Repeat this process on each computer that you want to connect to the wireless printer.
If this is a new installation of Windows 7 and you have never used the printer on this installation, you will need to install the printer from scratch. If you have the installation disc that came with the printer, pop that into your computer and follow the installation steps. If you do not have that disc, you can look up your specific printer model and download the driver to your computer. Then use the Add Printer Wizard in Windows 7 to search for printers, and if yours is powered on (and both the computer and the printer are connected to your network) it should see it, and then tell it where you saved the driver.
make sure that both your computer and printer are both on the same network. after connect them you are most likely going to have to add the printer to the laptops. go into your control panel where it says hardware and sound and click on printer. there will be an option to add printer up at the top, click that and a new window will open up, click on the add wireless or bluetooth printer and follow the steps.
Choose your operating system, click on where it says Dell-Driver and download the file to your desktop. Then click on it and install the software onto your laptop. This will install your printer.
On the desktop machine - go to the printers folder, right click the
icon for the Laserjet and choose sharing (enable print sharing). You
should be able to name the printer and make it accessible to anyone
within the workgroup. If needed you can run the network setup wizard to change the workgroup names on both machines.
On the laptop go to add new printer and choose network printer, you
should be able to browse to the desktop machine by name and choose the
Laserjet as a printer (whether you want it to be the default is up to
you). The laptop will download and install the drivers from the desktop
pc to the laptop and set the correct network path automatically.
It goes without saying that the desktop machine must be on in order to print from the laptop in this scenario.
The drivers below are a 32 or 64 bit machine. You can find out which your system is my click on start and right clicking on my computer and from the drop down menu select properties. It will tell which your machine has.
