Need help getting his line back so he can use it
Not too clear on what's happening. Maybe the phone is set to call forward all. Usually CFA code is 41 plus ext. If the user happened to dial 41......, but forgot to dial 9 first for an outside line the phone could be forwarded to the twilight zone. In this case, dial 42 to cancel CFA, problem solved. If do not disturb in on, code 40 is the cancel code. This depends on your codes being at default, if your office codes were changed, say to make room for 400 series extensions, then who knows what will set and cancel CFA or DND. If you want the phone to ring instead of voice announce on internal calls, I'll have look for that later. I know it can be done in programming, but there's probably a code so you can do it yourself.

Thankfully I have found a solution that has worked.
A 'winking' (flashing) feature button indicates the station is in call forward - all calls mode.
To cancel this setting do the following
Lift the handset or press speaker
Dial the access code 4 + 2 (set as default)
Receive confirmation tone and restore handset or press speaker
I have found the manual at the following link to be the best resrouce ever - very easy to understand

This works on the series E phones. It may or may not work on the series II.
Pressing the TRANSFER key will change the current letter to lower case.
Example to enter the name “Pat” press:
77 HOLD 22 TRANSFER HOLD 88 TRANSFER HOLD

The telephone instrument you have can be used on the NEC Electra Professional Level I, and the Level II systems (and under some conditions the NEAX 2000 series). Codes for features are somewhat different based on the system. It is possible that your phone is in "Do-Not-Disturb" if other phones on your system actually ring when they are called via the intercom (on the Level I and Level II systems, initial intercom ring is a system wide setting). The cancel DND code is:
Level I system: with telephone idle, press <FNC>, dial 60, press <FNC>.
Level II system: with telephone idle, press <FNC>, dial 69, press <FNC>.
It is also possible that your ring volume is very low. To adjust, press <SPKR>, dial 601, then adjust volume using the up/down keys at the bottom of the phone (press <SPKR> when finished.
If your system is programmed to access an outside line when you press <SPKR>, you will need to press the <INTERCOM> button first.)
If your system is set for voice intercom, people calling your phone can make it ring by dialing a "1" after your intercom number.
If you do all this and your phone still won't ring on incoming calls, let me know and we'll have to go into system programming to correct it.
