I have an almost full black ink and my color ink is running a little low.. but when I did a test page.. color prints, but the black does not.. I did a couple cleanings.. like 4 times.. and totally wasted...

because you don't use it enough the nozzel is probably blocked with dried ink, even the cleaning option wont work in this case, the only thing you can do is to get help from a professionnal technician to unblock the nozel, some times diping the printing head in hot water unglogges it and some times the technician needs to force a cleaning/ink solution through the nozel with a surringe, but what ever you do (DO NOT USE ALCOHOL) you will damage the print head.

Replaced ink and it still shows replace ink

I have the same problem at times. After putting new ink in you need to spool it. Call brother help line for free and they will tell you how to do this. I am sorry I don't remember how- sometimes turning it off and on will help. Also, I have noticed that if you put it in too quickly it will not recognize it. Try some of these. Spooling is the best try going to your control center and check all options!!!
Hope it helps-

I can't send or receive faxes. I get a transmission verification report back that says poor line condition/out of memory. How do I clear the memory?

Noise - That's a problem for some of these. Try Brother for a firmware update first, a long shot... Try a DSL Filter even if you DON'T have DSL - Radio Shack, maybe wallmart, possibly your DSL carrier. If you have DSL, that's an almost gaurenteed problem with these! Other than that, check the connections at the back of the jack and at the demarcation point (box) outside your house. If you hear hum on your phones when no one's talking, you have other problems; solutions too numerous to list.
Memory - You may have some faxes stored because "print when recieved" is turned off. Look in the manual for how to print out stored faxes, some models will store faxes automatically when the ink or paper are out. DO NOT USE GENERIC OR REFILLED INK IN THESE!!! use only original Brother inks!!! Cheap on eBay sometimes, especially as a set. Make sure it says OEM not "made for/to fit" or "replaces". Brothers are very prone to clogging from from non-Brother inks.

Brother Mfc-845cw and Mfc-465cn both stopped printing Black about the same time. Using Non brother Ink. Tried cleaning, replacing carts, unpluging maching. how can I fix this.

the black ink that was used in the refilled cartridges was probably to thick for the nozzels on the head, you can try buying the original cartridges and then cleaning again, or check with the store you got these cartridges from as some of them offer a warranty

Not printing

  • If you replaced an ink cartridge before the LCD shows Near Empty or Ink Empty, the LCD will ask you to verify that it was a brand new one. (For example, Did You Change Blck?) For each new cartridge you installed, press up navigation key or 1 or "+" to select Yes to automatically reset the ink dot counter for that color. If the ink cartridge you installed is not a brand new one, be sure to press the down navigation key or 2 or "-" to select No.

  • Here is the manual, you can download it and go to the routine maintenance section.

Non of the inks are working, even though they are all new carts.

so go back to maintenance mode. Make sure all carts are at full level, placed well and are secured. press 7 then 6 then 4 by help of arrow-up and set key. display should be init_all. press start bk-copy. when finished (maintenance) press 7-6-3 then start bk-copy.
leave maintenance after cleaning procedure by pressing 9 then 9. If youre lucky the generic ink hasnt affected the ph. print a test prit. if you cant see any blocks nor signs the ph needs replacement.

anyway: if you use generic ink do mix some glycerol (glycerin alc.) from drugstore: 2ml of 85%-glycerol with 8ml of generic ink. This prevents the ph nozzels from drying out or clogging!

That might be because of generic ink!
This generic ink destroys the nozzels due to a chemical reaction!

If you re lucky you will have good results when useing original brother ink carts.

Run the cleaning procedure twice after you have inserted the original carts!

    Printing incorrect colouring

plz check the color carts: are they inserted at the right place? If not, change them into the right place. Run the cleaning cycle 4 times to get the wrong ink out of the tube and nozzels.

If you have them at the right places print a test print by pressing ink button and selecting the test print.

Does it look good or do still have the diffrent colors?

First, wouldn't print black, now won't print magenta- all new cartridges!

Unplug machinepowercord. Open printer and take all carts out. Plug in power. Machine demands carts. Put new one in: Replace with original ink carts!. When asked push 1 (yes New cart). If you have used thirdparty carts, there could be a prob due to construticon or ink quality. In case there is no bk after 3x cleaning cycles anymore, the head is clogged: This happens because the filter in front of the nozzels is clogged by pigmented ink. DO USE ONLY DYE INK for all types of brother inkjet machines!!!

Change the black one. It could be that the cart is mal manufactured (valve wont open). Use another one and see if there is bk again. When no success after the 2. cleaning cycle try this: If there is more trouble post here.
