First green & yellow waves when turning on, later it got worse, TV shuts off now by design. Repair guy says to replace Convergence IC chip. Can do it in home but requires soldering to board. How much for part and how long (labor)to replace chip? is diagnosis correct or do I have capacitor problem? What is useful life of Convergence chip? TV was winner until now as it is 6 years old. If I replace can I get 3 years more ?
Parts for $80 to 90?!?!? HOGGWASH!! It's $21 at mcmelectronics.com for an orignial Sanyo. For a WS-65711 it is indeed a STK393-110 and you only need one of them. I've heard that this usually the culprit when there are convergence problems. The pico fuses can go, but that's pretty rare. If you can solder and feel comfortable inside your TV, then this can be done at home so you'll even save on the labor. I suggest buying the part yourself and asking them to install it.
There is either a pair of STK392-570's, or
a STK393-110. Probly also 1 or 2 pico fuses for the +/- 26v line in the power supply.
Parts aprox 80.00 to 90.00
Labor 150.00 to 180.00
Plus service call fee if any.
So figure it up from there. Labor cost does vary from location to location. I do feel confident that capasitors are not causing this problem in the way you explained the symptoms.
Hope this helps,
