You probably have a clog of dust between the fan and the heatsink. It would be best to have it disassembled to clean, although a few models have clean-out doors to the fan on the back. You might be able to somewhat clear it by blowing canned air in the vent, but this may push dust balls into the fan that go right back against the heat sink.

If sol 1 didn't work,
shutting down while not working on it?

-1 check if power saving feature in BIOS is set to three minutes
and change that to more time- or disable it fully

-2 check battery capacity - could be low or suffering from memory-effect
- let it run without battery, just the cable and wait for the issue again:

if yes goto procedure 1 again

get the speedfan-program
that displays cpu temperature and fan frequency in task-leiste
gives ability to even speed up fan an cool down cpu !

You need to clean it out with some compressed air.

Make sure the laptop is turned off of course.

If you still have heating issues, then you'll need to take it apart and put a new layer of thermal paste on the heat sink / cpu.

Best of luck!

this is a heat problem. try blowing the fan vent and all opening with air. a air compressor does this well. if you don't have one you can buy dust remove in a can.(same thing but compressed air in a can) they also sell a fan plate you can put under the laptop at walmart. (around 15 dollars) i use one on my laptop. i used Velcro to keep together. the fan plate uses a usb port to power it on. hope this helps and please rate. thank you.

VGN-CS16G-blanck screen..not even lights

This is a common problem on Sony Vaio laptops, in my experience.
There's a backlight part that blows out that is hard to replace or very expensive.

I have a sony vaio vgn-cs16g, sometime when i used, it suddenly shut down. when i restart, its ok. can anyone know what is the problems? thanks

update your Anti Virus first. then scan. maybe your computer has a virus. if it has no virus, check the battery. if the battery is good, then there is a problem on the motherboard.

Vgn-cs16g is shutting down by itself. even laptop is not hot but put the fan blow it and working. by the way brought the vgn-cs16g just over one year.

hi there, it may be a virus or a problem with heat sensor. Many laptops have a fail safe built in to shut off the laptop when it registers the CPU being too hot. It prevents damage to the computer. If this is the case, you need to bring it to a computer shop to be repaired. If it is a virus, you may have to have a pro look at the computer.
