I have the same problems with my Yamaha DSP-A3090. The remote switching of sources keeps rotating the selector know back and forth. The digital source from the optical connections keeps dropping. I am having a hard time trying to find some to repair it--even the shops that repair vintage Yamaha equipment.

I have the same problem with the audio cutting in and out with the display flickering on most of the audio sources. My thoughts are the source selector switch making poor contact. I can simulate the problem by gently wiggling the source select switch. Would appreciate any other thoughts.

I also have the same problem with the input selector switch changing inputs. Could it be the switch?

I have the same problem regarding the input selector going back and forth and sometimes not hitting the correct input chosen. I want to try and clean the contacts as stated. Could I get some more detail in finding the contacts and and what exactly to do to clean them. I have not been able to find anyone that will do this for me. Thank you in advance.

I have same problem and was able to find a replacement 5 years ago, but now the new one has gone bad. Yamaha won't help, so when i do replace it, i'm going to have to go with a different brand.

Your right on the money. I de-soldered the switch removed and cleaned out the contacts with contact cleaner from Radio Shack and some Q-tips. It now works perfectly. It also corrected the problem of searching for the selected input with the remote control. They no longer make the switch so this is your only other option.
It is not that difficult to remove the switch. The ribbon wiring just pulls out to get access to switch and board.
Then de-solder the switch off the board. You can then remove the switch and take the contacts apart. Just mark the position of the rotary contacts so you can put it back in the same position.

Guys.... very sorry but you all have a problem with your input switch. this is a common problem with yamaha designed mechanical switches. It was later updated about after a year because the original did not last long enough past the warranty period, the contacts were replaced with gold plating. But by this time i guess it must be really hard to find a replacement. more than 10 years now, must be really phased out.

it can be cleaned by contact cleaners, those that does not leave any liquid residue and then blow dry and will probably work for a short period only and will go back to abnormal operations. symptoms is not only intermitent sound but switch will sometimes turn itself left-right.

Sounds like a cold solder joint around the imput to the power amp stage on the board. If you can get to the board take a bright lamp and a magnifying glass to chek for solder joints that are frosty looking .If so heat them up and dab solder to make them shiny.
Good Luck

I need a remote for a Yamaha DSP A3090, Yamaha part VT974300. I'm OK with a universal remote as long as it can access and navigate the on-TV menu.

Be careful - most universal remotes only control the most basic of functions, volume change, channel change, mute, on/off. They rarely include operation of sources, menus, etc.

U are , no doubt, going to need an original unit for the menu access.
Check for remote on ebay or google.
