I replaced the capasitor and the contactor now I am not getting any power to kick on the compressor. what now?

I have used a multimeter and found no power getting to the contactor. I could really use some help. I really can't afford to have a repair man to come all the way out to my house in the county.

If the capacitor is wired wrong you may have tripped the braker or blown a fuse.

SOURCE: intertherm 3 ton ac unit

The 55 terminal is marked "herm" it goes to the start winding of the compressor. The 5 terminal is marked "fan" it goes to a wire from the fan motor. The common terminal goes to one side of the power line...The side that is NOT going directly to the compressor.

The condenser unit will not kick on...it is a concord unit,10=12 years old,13 seer,3 ton. The air handler works fine. I thought it was the capacitor. The old one was bad,I verified that with multimeter....

It could be a low refrigerant cut-out (switch), grounded or shorted motor windings, open internal winding overload protector (check at the common winding), a broken conductor, or no power at condensing unit from blown fuses or open/tripped breaker.

Under the window heat pumps, do they have a reset on the compressor,, I replaced the capasitor , the fan starts but the compressor doesnt?

The compressor is hermetically sealed. They have overload protection for temperature but it is not manually resettable. Check for proper voltage at the contactor going to the compressor.

The compressor is not coming on

Is the fan in the outdoor unit coming on? If it is, that narrows the problem to just the compressor or capacitor. If neither is running, check the disconnect or circuit breaker or fuses that are located close to the outside unit. If the unit has power, remove the cover where the power goes into the outside unit, set the thermostat to make the unit come on and see if the contactor is pulled in. If it is, use a meter to check for power on the load side of the contactor. If the fan is running, check the capacitor for the compressor. Most units use one that works both the fan and the compressor. If the capacitor looks swollen then it is bad, otherwise use a multimeter with the capacitor check function to test it. If the capacitor is good, check the compressor motor windings with the multimeter on the resistance function. Let me know what you find and I can give you more advice if this doesn't get you going.

My compressor wont kick on since lastnite. Whats wrong?

Is this a split system or a wall unit. If it is a split system, is the outdoor fan running? If it isn't, check the fuses or disconnect first. If that's good, set the thermostat to make the air come on then remove the cover where the power goes into the outside unit and see if the contactor is pulled in. Next, check voltage on the primary and secondary side of the contactor and make sure it is getting power. If the outdoor fan is running then the problem may be just your capacitor. You can check it with a multimeter or take it to a heating and air supply and they can check it. If the capacitor is good then check the compressor motor windings. Let me know what you find and I can give more suggestions. There are a lot of possibilites but these are some common ones.

Unit runs but compressor will not start no power at the compressor or capasitor

Check for power at the contactor. If no power there, check the circuit breaker, disconnect, or fuses. If there is power at the contactor, set the thermostat to call for a/c then check the contactor to see if it is pulled in. If it isn't check for 24vac at the contactor. If no 24vac then go to the thermostat and place a jumper between R and Y; that should make the contactor pull in if everything is good. If it does pull in when you install the jumper the problem is your thermostat. Let me know what you find.

Turned unit on for first time, it will not kick on

does the indoor fan blow? If it does you are getting the 24 volts from the thermostat to the ouside contactor need to check your contactor in the oustide unit this is what kicks on the compressor it take the 24 volts and goes to 230 volts to run the compressor and condensor fan. check your schematic for the placement of the contactor.

A/C compressor has power to the contactor (220) but will not kick

Check for 24 volts at your contactor coil. If you have 24 volts at your contactor coil, then you should read 220 volts on the other side of the contactor. If you do not read 220 on the other side, then the contactor is failed and needs replaced. If you do not read 24 volts at your contactor coil, then you have to find out where the "break" is. See if you have 24 volts at "common" and "Y" at your outdoor unit. If you do not, the problem is somewhere between your outdoor unit and thermostat. If you have 24 volts at your outdoor unit but not at your contactor, you have a problem somewhere inside your outdoor unit. Using this information, do some more investigating and let us know what you find, we will guide you further from that point. Good Luck! :-)

Outside ac compressor not kicking on when ac turned on

Most of the time the capasitors are bad but it could be that the commpressor is bad or if it is a heatpump the low pressure switch could have it locked out or the contactor could be bad also

Comressor won't kick in...

Check contactor on outside unit for burned contacts. Try to manually press the contactor with INSULATED screwdriver to test. Should be some **** on cotact buttons. Hope this helps. Let me know. Good luck

Compressor on central unit wont kick on

you need to use a meter to ensure that you are getting control voltage from the xfrmr. Also check it at the coil side of the contactor if you feel comfortable doing this but be careful of the line voltage side. If you are getting power on the coil side of the contactor usually a 24v signal from the tstat from the area labeled y and the contactor is not pulling in most likely you will need to replace the contactor. If the contactor is pulling in verify the amp draw on the compressor with the tag.
