My HP7280 printer will not print from my laptop. The hp conifg page states network status oflline. etc. Can you help me?

Did the PC recognised the printer? If YES, then click on "Start" followed by clicking "Printers and Faxes" if your PC's OS is WIN XP or WIN 7 but if your PC's OS is WIN VISTA, you will go like this "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Hardware and Sounds" - "Printers". When you get to where all the printers installed on your PC are displayed, go to the printer you want to use, right click on the very printer and select the option that say "Set as Default Printer". Close everything and enjoy your printing!!!

The network printer will print a test page but nothing else

whenever a printer is connected to a network it loads a driver for all the lower versions of operating systems so that if any computer from the network having a lower version gives a print command it can be spooled using that driver. On the other hand you have connected the printer to an OS of low version and printing through a higher version. Its just like connecting a printer to DOS comp and trying to print through Win 98. So now you know what you have to do. Just find your driver compatible for Win7 and connect it to win7 and you can give print through xp.

Printer is connected via USB to a Win XP PC and prints fine. However will only print test print from networked Vista laptop?

I take it you the Win XP PC is on the same network that your Vista Laptop is on and that some how you must be able to share the printer through your XP PC?
I think you are experiencing the many issue that Vista has to offer.
Maybe think of actually seeing about placing the printer on a Network print server. This would solve your issue. I did this with my Brother Laser printer and it works great. I believe the print servers are coming down in price I am using a TRENDnet TP100 and it works great with my two wired network desktop PCs and the two wireless notbooks that both have Vista on them.
