Did the PC recognised the printer? If YES, then click on "Start" followed by clicking "Printers and Faxes" if your PC's OS is WIN XP or WIN 7 but if your PC's OS is WIN VISTA, you will go like this "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Hardware and Sounds" - "Printers". When you get to where all the printers installed on your PC are displayed, go to the printer you want to use, right click on the very printer and select the option that say "Set as Default Printer". Close everything and enjoy your printing!!!
do you print it to the computer were the printer were you want to print or to another computer were the printer is installed to other computer and you trying to print it by search it to the network to print..if it is the same OS that you are using there is no problem on it..but if it is different OS like you likr to print it to the pc if it is win 7 but the printer is connected to a pc were win xp is the OS he/she using you must install it again..go to youtube and search..how to print to other pc by network.
win 7 has some problems with networking equipment. there is a method for installing the wpsm54 on vista and win 7. go to this link it has a good clear set of directions. good luck, aokcomputer
whenever a printer is connected to a network it loads a driver for all the lower versions of operating systems so that if any computer from the network having a lower version gives a print command it can be spooled using that driver. On the other hand you have connected the printer to an OS of low version and printing through a higher version. Its just like connecting a printer to DOS comp and trying to print through Win 98. So now you know what you have to do. Just find your driver compatible for Win7 and connect it to win7 and you can give print through xp.
I take it you the Win XP PC is on the same network that your Vista Laptop is on and that some how you must be able to share the printer through your XP PC? I think you are experiencing the many issue that Vista has to offer. Maybe think of actually seeing about placing the printer on a Network print server. This would solve your issue. I did this with my Brother Laser printer and it works great. I believe the print servers are coming down in price I am using a TRENDnet TP100 and it works great with my two wired network desktop PCs and the two wireless notbooks that both have Vista on them. have you tried running your installation as Administrator? vista need to be told that you have admin permissions, you are set by default as a reg user in vista.
