Takes pictures, but all over-exposed

When I take a shot, the display mode shows the image, but many bright white lines appear across the screen. Then when I view the pictures, they all seem very over-exposed. The indoor photos seem less exposed but when I go outside to take photos, the display shows the image as very over-exposed. Essentially each outdoor picture appears as a very bright image, just light.
Any suggestions?

Why does my bunker hill security camera #47546 display grey and black lines across the screen? But it does show faintly some imagery

Your display chip was exposed to line surge (static/high voltage) or a quick flash of bright light. It is shot.

When i take picture, the picture is white n some time become very very bright, but if take video is ok.

this can be usually associated with your white balance in still camera mode.
Check to see your white balance is set correctly or just set it to auto. Also make sure the mode you are in it set. (ie. indoor, outdoor, auto, speed)

WHEN CAMERA IS TURNED ON THE SCREEN WILL SHOW PAST PICTURES FINE BUT WHEN THE SELECTOR SWITCH IS MOVED TO EITHER TAKE A NEW PICTURE OR TO THE MOVIE MODE THE DISPLAY SCREEN IS BLACK WITH LIKE PURPLISH LINES...

From your description, it sounds to me like the image sensor within the camera went bad.
This can happen from a few things:
  • Camera dropped
  • Moisture
  • Rattling around in a bag or suitcase
  • Knocking into things while in the pocket
  • Leaving it powered on in the pocket
  • Prolonged exposure to bright lights
Try taking a picture while the camera is in picture mode even if you can't see what it is of, then either review the pictures to see if what you just took shows up without issues or transfer it to your computer.
If you can see a picture afterwards when reviewing your images, then it sounds like the firmware may have gotten corrupted. In this case, you should update the cameras firmware using this LINK.
If you cannot see the image you just took, or it has those same purple lines, then it is a hardware problem and can only be fixed by replacing the camera or by sending it in for repair.
Even if you cannot see the image you just took, I would suggest going ahead with the firmware update to see if it works.

I have had my camera for not even a year and it recently started having this problem. Whenever I take a picture, the object will look fine in the display, but when I take the picture it gets horizontal...

If I understand you correctly, you're saying that the LCD display shows a normal picture when you are composing your shot, but that when you actually snap the shutter to record the shot, the resulting image has nasty lines across it?

That would indicate that the lens is fine, but that the image sensor itself or associated electronics have gone bad. If this is out of warranty, then you're likely out of luck.

White lines appearing on display after picture is taken

I have the same problem, and upon looking into my problem, i recall reading that Sony had used crappy glue in which they attached the CCD to the inner guts of the camera, and when that deteriorates, which doesn't take very long, then your pictures will have lines through them.

I think i remember reading that Sony said they will replace all cameras within 2 years of their manufacture. Call Sony's troubleshooting and support and they may replace it for you.

Hope i helped solve your problem.
