I have a Pfaff (Hobby 4260). I have started having a problem when the needle hits a thickness, it stops sewing and just sits and hums. I have to turn the wheel to get over the thickness and then it skips. This is a new problem so don't know what the problem could be.It sews fine otherwise.
Thats why machines for heavy duty work has bigger motors. Every machine has its limits. 220v machines are weak in general..
And when the fabric is thick, you can help the machine by putting some thick fabric behind the needle, so your sewing foot is level, then you will avoid breaking the needle.
It may be that your motor belt needs tighening or the belt may be damaged - you can check belt and adjust tension yourself once side cover is removed.
if you are sewing thick seams and the needle is resting on the seam as you begin to sew you may have to help the machine to get started. if the fabric is not thick it must be belt tension.
