Question about Rowenta Professional DX8800 Iron

1 Answer

Doesn't heat up...

My Rowenta Professional iron (purchased in 11/97 at Macy's for $100) doesn't heat up. I gently shook the iron to deactivate the auto shut off as suggested in the manual. Is it worth it for me to have it repaired and please confirm where I send it.
Thank you

Rowenta Iron doesn't heat up and the Auto-off lamps remains lit. Any clues? Is it the small PC card in the handle? Thanks, Rudy

The problem would be the contact points and setting of the heater! u have to open the iron and check, adjust, and clean the bi-metal thermostat or the heater core!

Rowenta iron will heat up and then shut down. Have to keep plugging and unplugging the iron.

Irons use a potentiometer and thermister to control the heat on the element. One of these components is bad and needs replacing. If the iron's still under warranty, get another one. The cost of service would probably be as much as a new iron, but you could call an appliance repair shop to check.

THIRD leaking Rowenta

Try buying a cheap one from wallmart or some similar store. They are not too dear so you can use them until they fail and then buy another cheap one.

I have a Rowenta Pro. Iron, model DE-86.1A with auto shut-off. It sticks on auto shut-off. I have to move it around for it to heat up, as indicated by the sensor light on the top.

I believe that is how the safety feature works.

Once the iron detects no movement for a certain period of time (the iron assumes you have finished ironing) the iron will shut of the heating element.

One you have moved it around, the timer should prevent it from auto shutting down for a period of time.

Iron No Longer Heats Up

Recommended solution, gently shake, did not work.

Considering the iron was at a minimum two years old, I decided to purchase another Rowenta. I found the recommended solution documented on a FAQ sheet enclosed with the new iron.

I actually own another Rowenta iron (I now have three) that has the same issue. I will send one iron, the one manufactured in Germany, to a Rowenta Service Center to see if can be repaired - it was the first Rowenta iron I purchased and it provided several good years of service.

Not heating

The thermal cutoff device blew and must be replaced. It acts like a fuse when the iron gets too hot. Thay are very
cheap and it would be well worth replacing. Hope this was helpful.
