If you're referring to the proximity sensor, there can be some things to try...

Try and run a proximity test on the device. Here are some codes that might give you the option to run a test on the sensor if you're having this issue on a Smartphone. Go to your dial pad as though you are going to type a telephone number but instead of a telephone number try typing these codes.
*#7353# will access the Device Diagnostic Tool on Samsung phones and some other Smartphones excluding HTC often there is a proximity sensor test option shown here.
*#*#3424#*#* can be used to open the Device Diagnostic Tool on an HTC Android phone, some HTC phones show an option to test the proximity sensor through this diagnostic tool, some HTC phones don't.
*#*#0588#*#* will also run a Proximity Sensor Test on some Smartphones.

The problem ended up being transient; I rarely restart my phone. Somehow it got stuck in 'on call' mode, so the proximity sensor was enabled despite nothing being running. A reboot resolved the silly issue. (Source:https://www.apogeeweb.net/electron/what-is-a-proximity-sensor.html)

A simple way to explain how Screen Proximity Safety works is by giving the phone the ability to turn the screen On or Off when the proximity sensor detects that the phone is near or far from the phone's surface to the user's ear. For example, when you answer your phone and hold it up against your ear, the proximity sensor will tell the phone to turn the screen off to save battery life and also prevent the phone from heating up the side of your head thus prevent overheating when your are on the phone.

I had this same problem. There could be a few reasons. Starting with the simplest:
Finger placement; sometimes your fingers may wrap around and touch the screen while using it causing the proximity sensor to turn the display off.
Screen protectors; I got lucky because my problem was being caused by the screen protector i was using. It had come off a bit in my pocket and gotten scratched on the part that touches the screen which messed up with the proximity sensor. All i had to do was take off the protector and the problem was fixed.
Sensor Malfunction; The proximity sensor in the phone is malfunctioning and you can try to hard reset the phone but usually if it is malfunctioning you just need to get it fixed or replace the phone. If your phone is still under warranty you should probably use it.

Sorry to say this,This phone is named for this bug.This is a bug which is present in Samsung Memoir...The light sensor and the proximity sensor is being linked together in this phone.These two sensor works together based on their sensitivity.

But we can still solve this issue but it does not give 100% success to all.You have to change the proximity sensor settings in the phone.The proximity sensor is being located near the top of the phone where you keep the ear.Once you take it to the ear the accelerometer will detect the change in phone and the phone detects when it is in calling state and turns on the proximity sensor to detect it..So when you take it to ear or your body.the phone keypad will get locked and to save the battery the lights will get off.


Steps to increase the proximity sensor settings:

It will ask for service code:Six zeros type '000000'
Now scroll down to field test and get into proximity call.
Take the palm or finger and show i near the holes 1/2 or 2 inch
away and press yes
Show it until you hear sound and say successful message.
Do this until your proximity detection less.

Hope this will solve it.If still problem persist take it to nearest service center.and ask him for the proximity settings.

The rear hatch has a proximity sensor that senses your "smart key". If any sensor is disconnected, the auto-unlock/lock feature AND the push button start feature will not work. My guess is that the proximity sensor in the hatch got disconnected.

I went to the Proxim website (www.proxim.com) to see if I could find info on the card, but Proxim looks like they make you register before you can get any information.

You probably just need a Vista driver. Go to the Proxim site, register, and see if one is available.

Try the other way around,first install the card then boot the system up. When Windows finds the card and asks for the driver, insert your driver cd and choose install driver manually and point windows to your cd drive to force the use of the correct driver. It may be that windows is trying initially to install the generic driver.

It may be that the driver being used ia a generic one that Windows updated if it's on automatic, and not the driver you got with the adapter. Start from beginning again, uninstal card and drivers if still there, but make sure Windows looks to your installation CD for the driver and not a Windows generic one. You may have to re-start your system, and make sure your router sees the card in it's ip address allocation.
