had that happen on 2002 heritage. was a bad fire in one of the plugs.
changed plugs fixed problem.
Testimonial: "I just put new plugs in it. Although I may need new plug wires. Thanks for the reply."
SOURCE: Speedometer,km.,and light do not work,as
First check the fuses in the fuse box under the seat beside the battery. If the fuses checked out ok, then it can be problem with speed sensor.Try removing and cleaning the speedo sensor. It sure sounds like your speedo sensor. The magnets on it get eventually pick up metal bits. Pull it and clean it off. If that doesn't work, you need a new sensor, not a new speedo.
---------
Yes ther is a way to test the speed sensor but it involves fabricating a test harness and using HD-41354 spedometer tester.
A couple easy things to verify are 12v on red wire to speedo sensor.
Also, make sure the black wire is a good ground.--------
The sensor is by the dip stick, takes a 3/16 allen. {You may have to pull the chrome cover on the starter to replace the sensor}--------------
But if after replacing the speedo sensor problem is same then there is other problem or short in wiring or problem with voltage regular( the alternator. It has to be checked.-------Check the voltage at alternator if it shows more then 14.5 then yes its the problem.Too much voltage would make the speedo **** out.And other electrical lights to stop working.--------
This will help.thanks.Helpmech.
