I have a model 1691931 12LTH36 the brake did not work or was stiff at first. Adjusted according to manual, pedal does not release and brake is stuck and still not working properly. brake spring is rusted,...

Standing behind the tractor, look under the RIGHT
rear, between the tire and the trans case. You will see a small brake disc protruding slightly from inside a brake caliper.
1) Remove the cotter pin, nut, flat-washer and plate in the center of that assembly. You should now see a threaded stud in the center, the ends of two round pins on either side, and two bolt-heads on the outside.

2) Pull the two pins out with pliers. clean, wire brush and grease these two pins. DO NOT remove the two bolts on the outside.

3) Reassemble in reverse order and use the center nut to adjust. A small adjustment goes a long way here.

4) Test brakes with rear tires off the ground in a SAFE manner, while still using the center nut to adjust.

5) Once you have good brakes and good release without any load on the tires, set the unit down and test ride... make final adjustments if needed.

Hope this helps!

My mower brakes do not work

The adjuster is on the right side just in front of the rear wheel. its the clutch rod / brake rod . you will see a spring on the shaft with two nuts one used to lock the adjustment. loosen the nuts and turn the nuts so the nuts go towards the back of the tractor. keep checking the peddle for brake .

Need to adjust brake/clutch 14hp craftsman lawn tractor

The brake is on the right side of the transaxle. There are two mounting bolts and one 1/2 nut in the middle that is your adjustment. Tighten it 1/2 turn at a time and hold the brake down and try to roll it until it holds.

Toro lawn tractor : tractor will not start

On most riding mowers there are several switches that must be actuated before it will start. First, make sure that blades are disengaged. Also, if there is a handle that engages and disengages the blades, you might try holding it in the dis-engage position in case the switch is out of adjustment. There is probably one under the seat also. This switch kills everything if you are not sitting in the seat for safety reasons. The switch here could be out of adjustment or mis-positioned. Also, make sure the parking brake is set, and the gear is in neutral, and not forward or reverse. Also, even if the parking brake is set, you might try pressing the brake all the way down while starting, as this switch might be out of adjustment. All of the switches should be easy to locate and adjust. Also, you should check the battery. It is possible that you left the key on by mistake and drained it.

Hope some of this helps.
