See if camera electronics can be reset. Contact the manufacturer for this procedure. If nothing can be done to restore camera to factory defaults then the electronics are fubar. May not be cost effective to repair.
When you need to delete the photos from the SD memory card, do not use your computer to do it. Use your camera to format the SD memory card. To fix this problem, insert the SD memory card in your camera then go to the camera's Menu and format the SD memory card.
After safely downloading the pics to your computer, insert the card into the camera, go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions.
If your camera is indeed an SD200, am sorry to say an 8GB SDHC will not work in this camera. The camera will fail to recognize it, and will do this by giving various problems as you've run into. The overall problem is that the camera was designed before the SDHC format came out (SDHC cards although the exact same in appearance are different in format than standard SD cards). The largest size card that the SD200 will recognize is a 2GB standard SD card.
You can format the card in your camera while not connected to your computer. In fact it's recommended to do so. Read your instruction book to find out how. It should be a selection available from your "menu" button when in image review mode. Select "low-level" or "full" format, not "quick" format (quick format is only good for erasing pictures).
