than only it can synchronize with you mobile..

the same exact thing happen to me......then I purchased a new connector (I used the old usb so much with the ipod)...and bingo itunes recognized the iphone......

1. try another USB port.
2. try restarting iPhone and laptop while both are tethered together.
3. Update USB drivers on your laptop.
4. try reinstalling iTunes.
5. Try restoring your iPhone.

Method 1. Manually Update the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
