When i plug my iphone 4s into my pc with itunes running it doesnt recognize the phone, cable is good pc makes sound when i plug in

There are several methods you can try to fix this issue. One of them shows below.

How to Fix iTunes Not Recognizing iPhone in Windows 10 Before You Begin:
  • Make sure that you have the button Trust this computer on your iPhone when connecting to your PC.
  • Make sure that you have installed all Windows updates. This is to make sure that your computer device drivers are up to date.
  • Make sure your iPhone USB cable works well.
  • Make sure your iOS device is turned on.
  • Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed.
  • Now, the following solution may help you fix the iTunes issue if you found that your iTunes does not recognize iPhone in Windows 10 computer.
Step 1. Connect your iPhone to computer and wait for some time until the device is recognised.
Step 2. Right-click "Computer", Go to "Device Manager". Then expand category "Universal Serial Bus controllers" and locate "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver".

Step 3. Right-click "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" and click "Update Driver Software". On the pop-out window, choose "Browse my computer for driver software".

Step 4. Then choose "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".

Step 5. Click "Have Disk..." button.

    Step 6. Click "Browse".

Step 7. Navigate to "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers". Then double-click the usbaapl file. If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, this file will be called usbaapl64.

If you don't see usbaapl64 here or if there isn't a Drivers folder, look in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers".
Then you need to install the driver for your Windows 10. After installing, unplug your iPhone, then reconnect it using USB cable. Open your iTunes and see if your iPhone can be detected or recognized by iTunes.

IPhone can't charge and can't be detected by PC

Be sure that your Windows PC meets the minimum system requirements to use iTunes and iPhone. This is particularly important if you are connecting iPhone to your computer for the first time. iPhone requires a specific minimum version of iTunes.
Ensure the computer's drivers are up to date

iPhone requires USB 2.0 to function properly. Refer to the documentation for your computer to verify that the USB ports are high-power USB 2.0 ports. Try connecting iPhone to a different USB port, preferably a port that is built-in to the computer instead of an external USB hub. Connecting iPhone to your keyboard's USB ports is not recommended.

In some cases, your computer's USB ports may become temporarily disabled or you may experience other software related issues. Restarting your PC is an easy troubleshooting step that may resolve this issue.

iPhone requires two important pieces of software to operate properly on Windows. First, the driver must be installed; for iPhone the driver is USBAAPL.SYS. Second, Apple Mobile Device Support must be installed as a Windows Service. If these are not installed, see the Reinstall iTunes section below.
Verify that the driver is installed by connecting iPhone to the computer and following these steps:
    1. On the Start menu, click Run.
    2. In the Open field, type devmgmt.msc and click OK. A list of devices will be displayed.
    3. Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus controllers and click the small plus sign to expand this group. iPhone will be listed as either Apple iPhone or Apple Mobile Device depending on the version of the driver installed.
    4. Right-click Apple iPhone (or Apple Mobile Device) and choose Properties from the shortcut menu.
    5. When the Properties window opens, select the Driver tab.
    6. Click Driver Details to view more information.
Verify that the Apple Mobile Device Service is installed and running using the Services MMC snap-in using these steps:
    1. On the Start menu, click Run.
    2. In the Open field, type services.msc and click OK. A list of devices will be displayed.
    3. View the list In alphabetical order and verify that the "Apple Mobile Device Service" status is "Started."
      1. If the status does not indicate the service is started, right-click Apple Mobile Device Service and choose Startfrom the shortcut menu.
      2. If the service is installed and started, right-click the service and choose Restart from the shortcut menu.
      3. If the driver is installed and the service is installed and started, check the Event Viewer for error messages.
        1. On the Start menu, click Run.
        2. In the Open field, type eventvwr.msc and click OK.
