How to reset the lamp timer on Sony Projection TVs.

If you have replaced the lamp in your Sony projection TV you must reset the lamp timer to get rid of the message saying that your lamp needs to be replaced. Let's face it, you know you already accomplished replacing the lamp but the TV isn't smart enough to know that. I will explain in detail how to accomplish the reset procedure.

Resetting the lamp timer is a complicated procedure but you should be able to do it if you have plenty of patience and know how to follow instructions. Read the procedure over first several times before trying to do it and locate all the buttons on the remote. You may want to try the procedure on the remote to make sure that you have the sequence memorized.

By the way the lamp life is figured to be from 5000 to 8000 hours. That is not much time if the TV is being used for more than 8 hours per day. If you do the math and watch your TV for 8 hours per day (not uncommon) the lamp will need replaced in 3 to 5 years. So be ready to do this procedure again in the very near future.

Here is the procedure.

All commands should be done using the factory remote:

1) enter the service mode by pressing display, 5, volume +, Power on
2) press JUMP 3 times
3) to display the time press channel 2, 9 times
4) to reset lamp timer press channel 3, MUTE, Enter
5) to check the time press channel 1, 7 times
6) when complete turn set off to exit.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating. Please consider a testimonial. Thank You.

Hi, you should have a reset procedure in the instructions that came with the new lamp, if you didn't most of the lamp suppliers will give you tech support either on line or by phone for the reset procedure. If you have trouble getting the procedure try the following link: http://911phone.net/Panasonic_TY-LA1000_Instruction_Manual[2].pdf
