Error code 11 (protector) - According to the manual, 11/PROTECTOR means, "Irregular current is output from the speakers. Turn of the receiver, check the speaker connection and turn on the power again." Most likely, a strand of speaker wire is shorted to the chassis at one of the speaker terminals.
Hope this helps !

I'm getting Protector Code 11 on mySony STR DA3000ES receiver and then shuts off. How do I fix this?

Could be a fault in your speakers or speaker cabling triggereing a protection circuit or something deeper, which is not user serviceable. Try different cables and different speakers (loan from a friend or something). If your problem still persists, take it into your nearest dealer/service center
Best of luck

On display appears PROTECT. can not clear data. how to solve it? thanks

check all the speakers connections for short circuits

unplug from wall
and
unplug all of the speakers and extra components and turn it on to see if the message disapears

if it does one by one start plugging that speakers back in
unplugging from the wall every time you add a speaker
(just in case the reciver only realises there is a problem after it shuts down)

if you find that after pluging in a speaker and when you turn it on check the wires for cuts or short circuits and check the speaker itself replace it with another and see what happens

I get a message "protector check code 11" and then it powers off

Page 59 of the manual (avaliable at retrevo.com after you register)...

"PROTECTOR/CHECK CODE 11
Irregular current is output from the speakers. Turn off the receiver , check the speaker conenction and turn on power again"

What this means is it senses a short circuit in one or more of the speaker paths. Disconnect all speakers, see if it works with none; then start connecting speakers again until you find the problem.

Can i have two 400 w spekers on sony DA5000ES?

Be very careful here.

If you put the speakers in parallel, the amp may well blow (4 ohm speakers in parallel would kill it at high volumes), and it may take the speakers with it.

I wouldn't try to extract more than the rated power from the amp. At it's rated output, it's seriously distorting, to a point where it becomes unlistenable. So, trying to ramp up the power further would only make it sound worse.

Putting the speakers in series is a safer route for your amp.

I have the sony str-da4400es iv had it since november 08 and all of a sudden my speakers started making a fuzzy noise all the time even during movies

Many things can be happening to cause this noise: loose connections; ground loops; speaker cables smashed, etc. Disconnect all sources and speakers, clean plugs and connectors, make firm connections, be sure of the energy quality at your home. Most sound noises come from fluctuations on voltage and energy. Consider to invest on a power conditioner. Good Luck.

Sony STR-DA3000ES PROTECTOR - CHECK CODE 11

There is a defect in the final amplification stage of the receiver. This may have been caused by a short in the speaker wires. The typical defective parts are the output transistors. Expect a parts cost in the $40 range for this repair. Any audio service shop should be able to repair this.

Shutdown 10 second

Hi,

The display "PROTECT" and the auto-shutdown is indicative that the Sony STR-DA5000ES senses an internal fault and powers off automatically to prevent further damage. The fault may either be in the amplifier section, the power supply section and/or the logic board (mini computer).

Initially, try a full hard reset, that is unplug from the mains for a couple of hours to hopefully revert the unit back to factory default (that is assuming no hardware problem). Additionally, you may want to check the speaker and the speaker wires for any open/breaks or short.

If above steps are not corrective, you may need to seek the services of a qualified professional or a service center since this would require on-site/in-shop repair, knowledge of electronic circuitry and components, a full service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings, a DVM and a soldering iron.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
